Blue Jackets buy out Lachance, Cassels

The Columbus Blue Jackets have bought out the contracts of defenseman Scott Lachance and center Andrew Cassels. Lachance, 32, was slated to earn $1.52 million this season.
In 819 career NHL games with Columbus, Vancouver, Montreal and the New York Islanders, Lachance has registered 31 goals, 112 assists and 567 penalty minutes.
He was originally drafted fourth-overall by the Islanders in the 1991 NHL draft.
Cassels was set to make $2.32 million salary this season. The 36-year-old was placed on waivers before Friday's 5 p.m. deadline and will be bought out when he clears. In 984 career NHL games with Columbus, Vancouver, Calgary, Hartford and Montreal, Cassels has accumulated 200 goals, 520 assists and 396 penalty minutes.
He was originally drafted 17th overall by the Canadiens in 1987.
