OTTAWA (CP) - Anders Hedberg and Frank Jay will take on added responsibilities with the Ottawa Senators.
Hedberg's job as director of player personnel will be expanded to include more involvement in player development, said GM John Muckler, explaining that more strength in professional scouting will be required because of the new collective bargaining agreement's salary-cap system.
Jay, the NHL team's chief amateur scout, was promoted to director of amateur scouting.
''Frank and Anders have been tremendous additions to the club,'' said Muckler. ''The promotions are recognition of the substantial contributions they have made to our on-ice product over the years and to the anticipation that they will make our team stronger in seasons to come.''
Hedberg joined the Senators in July 2002, coming from hockey operations positions with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and more recently as Sweden's general manager for the 2002 Olympic Games.
Jay was named the Senators chief amateur scout in August 1999 after serving as director of scouting for the OHL's Erie Otters for three seasons. Before the Otters, he had worked for the Quebec Nordiques, the New Jersey Devils and the New York Islanders organizations.
