Lowest In Three Years, Also Frozen For 2006-07 Regular Season

(July 29, 2005) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that they have rolled back regular season ticket prices to their lowest levels since 2002, and that season seat holders will enjoy the new lower pricing through the 2006-07 season.

More than 43% of the seats at Air Canada Centre will now be priced at $68 or less, and 14% will be capped at $35 for regular season home dates. Tickets will be scaled from $35 to $173.

"We're pleased to be able to lower the cost of our season seats, and to be able to provide our fans with the knowledge that these new prices will hold the line through the 2006-07 season," said Tom Anselmi, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. "Under the new collective bargaining agreement we have lower player costs, however we'll be incurring significant expenses that are new to us, totaling tens of millions of dollars. That said, we feel we can put in place a five percent across the board ticket price decrease while remaining revenue-neutral in the short term.

"The Leafs will be executing a 'Welcome Back' plan to thank our fans for their patience and support during the past year," Anselmi added. "We will be announcing a number of fan-friendly initiatives in the arena and throughout the community that will engage our fans more than ever with the Leafs. It's been a difficult year for all of us associated with hockey, but we join with our fans in enthusiastically looking ahead to getting back on the ice in September."

The 2005-06 regular season schedule was announced Wednesday. Single game ticket information for the Leafs is expected to be announced in mid-September.

Wow. 2002 prices in 2006???? What a treat. Too bad we're still paying year 2034 buffalo ticket prices.

The fact that they even cut them suprises me... Me too. I don't think this was at all necessary. Does MLSE think that they wouldn't continue to sell out at the regular 2005-06 prices? I don't know, but I am pretty sure that the Leafs wouldn't have any trouble selling out Air Canada Centre, regardless of the price. There are plenty of people willing to spend for a ticket.

That being said, the prices should still be lower.

I don't think that it's a matter of them being worried about filling seats. Their payroll has dropped significantly, and therefore they're just doing their part in 'giving back to the fan' as a show of gratitute. But as fans, all we really want in return is just a freakin Cup... is it so much to ask?

Am you are so right.................

Something tells me even if MLSE was handing out $100 bills some people would still trash them.

I must say I'm surprised. I kind of have to agree with JR here guys, the tickets are still way too expensive. I know they have their market set and its now a business. I also know they'll have no problem filling up the building. Really, its smart business, but still, those prices are high. Lets not get up and kiss MLSE for a whopping 5% cut.
