Report: Kings interested in retaining Palffy
TheFourthPeriod.com

The Los Angeles Kings will be searching for offense through the free agent pool this August, and intend on bringing sniper Zigmund Palffy back for the 2005-06 season. Sources have told TFP that the Kings are interested in signing the unrestricted free agent to a multi-year contract in the vicinity of 3 to 4 years.

"They're interested in talking," Palffy's agent, Paul Kraus, told TFP. Palffy, 33, scored 16 goals and added 24 assists in 35 games with the Kings during the 2003-04 season.

The Kings, like all clubs, are prohibited from negotiating with any players deemed unrestricted free agents prior to the lockout, even if they played for that club during the '03-04 campaign. "We have not had discussions (with Palffy)," Kings VP of Hockey Operations and Asst. GM Kevin Gilmore told TFP.

The Kings are interested in bringing the 11-year NHL veteran back to Los Angeles, but would not comment further. "We've got a list of free agents, and he's on the list, just as I'm sure he's on many other team's lists," Gilmore said. "We'll talk to his agent (come August 1)."

In 642 career NHL games with the Kings and New York Islanders, the three-time All-Star has accumulated 318 goals and 353 assists for 671 points. He was originally drafted by the Islanders in the second-round (26th overall) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.
