Blues shopping Pronger?
TheFourthPeriod.com
With the St. Louis Blues publicly stating that they will not buy out anyone from their roster, there is speculation that the team may trade one of their top players to shed salary. Reports out of St. Louis suggest the Blues plan on keeping veteran forwards Keith Tkachuk and Doug Weight, but appear to be clouded over defenseman Chris Pronger.
TFP has learned that the Blues are entertaining the thought of trading 30-year-old blueliner. Pronger, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound native of Dryden, Ontario, would command top dollar from the Blues organization, who are already committed on dishing out $13.3 million on Weight and Tkachuk.
Pronger is expected to will seek the $7.8 million maximum salary, and that may be too rich for St. Louis' blood. "(We'll all) have answers in the next few days," Blues GM Larry Pleau told ESPN Radio 1190 in St. Louis, referring to the status of Pronger.
The Blues intend to extend a qualifying offer to Pronger, but the option of trading him afterwards is very real. Blues President Mark Sauer said he didn't want to give details related to Pronger, as this is a "sensitive situation with Chris."
