Satan done in Buffalo

Miroslav Satan's days in as a Sabre appear to be over. The Buffalo News has learned that Satan's tenure in Buffalo will end either with a discharge or a trade, maybe within a few days.

Satan is a restricted free agent who would make nearly $4 million this season, about 14 percent of the team's target payroll, and become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

According to the News, the Sabres will either decline to tender a qualifying offer or retain his rights for the purposes of trading them away for as little as a draft pick.

Satan said he had no insight into what his future will be.
"I didn't speak to (Sabres management) yet," Satan told the News. "I'm just trying to wait and see what happens.

"I'm going to be a professional and not say anything more. I'm just going to wait and make no comments."

While the Sabres aren't expected to buy out any of their players under contract, the News believes Satan may not be the only restricted free agent they let go.

"What that will play off of is what we think is available in the unrestricted free agent market, what we see in the form of buyouts, what we see relative to possible trades," Sabres GM Darcy Regier told the paper. "So I think it's too early to say whether or not we'll qualify everybody."

Qualify and trade, but to where?

Satan would be a solid scorer, on any team.

He has produced well over the years, on a defensive minded team. So, imagine how well he could play on an offensive minded one.

Alright, I'd love to see him in Vancouver..as it has been rumoured..before, that he was coming here..in several different deals. Would be solid with the twins, or even on the top line..if worst comes to worst.

He would also be a good fit in Montreal, with fellow Slovak Zednik.

But then again, what team wouldn't want him, and his potential goals? Not to mention his success in the playoffs

I'll glady take Satan in Oiler silks.

Fact is, very few teams wouldn't want a great skating player with the kind of lethal offensive prowess that Satan brings.

I find it ironic.. imagine what any non-hockey fan would think reading through this thread

And to think that the Sabres could have had Craig Millar and Barrie Moore instead of Satan... ;)

Boy, that one didn't work out for the Oilers.

Satan is one of my favourite players. He is a solid performer and a good all round player.

I think with the exception of Ron Lowe just about anyone who knew anything about hockey (maybe that's why he's the exception?) could tell Satan would be something in this league one day..
