Leafs up first, maybe second
By BRUCE GARRIOCH -- Ottawa Sun

The Battle of Ontario could get off to an ugly start.

While the Senators will open the season on Wednesday, Oct. 5 against the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre, it's believed Ottawa is trying to arrange a home-and home series with its much-hated rival to kick off the 2005-06 campaign.

Though the club was tentatively scheduled to host the Canadiens on Oct. 8 at the Corel Centre -- which is expected to be renamed Scotia Place before the season begins -- it appears the Leafs could be the opponent.

The NHL wants to take advantage of its most heated rivalries in wake of the lockout and having the Senators play the Leafs in a back-to-back series on Hockey Night in Canada only makes sense.

The full NHL schedule will be released tomorrow..

Hehehe...bring it.

This should be good to reheat the rivalry when the season starts.

Toronto Maple Leafs - 2 wins, 0 losses,
Ottawa Senators - 0 wins, 2 losses.

I can see this kicking me in the butt later on, but oh well.

Yeah I wouldn't mind going 2-0 to start the year off.

It would be a good way to kick the year off. 2 games vs the sens would be the perfect medicine to get the casual fans right back in the thick of things.

Well, considering that we usually own the Leafs during the regular season only to experience heartbreak in the playoffs, I could certainly deal with losing to the Leafs in each of the 8 scheduled games during the regular season if it meant eliminating them from the playoffs.

Usually, but last time we played we beat you 4 out of the 5 regular season games we played, plus 4 more in the playoffs, so we've got your number lately :thumb:

Although I would love to start off home and home against the Sens and maybe a game against the Habs a week or so later. This kind of rivarly schedule will bring fans back to the gates all over the hockey world and the NHL needs to capitalize on previous rilvalries to spark interest again.

Two big 4 point games to kick off the fun.
Is it October 5th yet?
