MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that the Club will not exercise the 2005-06 team option on the contracts of defenceman Patrice Brisebois and forward Gavin Morgan.

Brisebois, 34, played for 14 seasons in the Canadiens' uniform. He played in 791 regular season games thus far in the NHL, and registered 342 points (79 goals, 263 assists). He also recorded 25 points in 78 playoff games (8 goals, 17 assists).

Brisebois, a Montreal native, was the Canadiens' 2nd round pick, 30th overall in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He was a member of the 1993 Canadiens Stanley Cup Champions.

Gavin Morgan, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, played in 76 games with the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs in 2004-05. He registered 33 points (10 goals, 23 assists) and 147 penalty minutes. Morgan signed a 2-year contract as a free agent with the Canadiens on July 23, 2004. The 2005-06 season was at the Club's option.

YES, there is a god! :coffee:

Finally sent him packing. Overpaid, and nothing more than a 4th/5th defenseman these days.

Good move

Now Gainey can sign a defenseman with size

I was half wanting them to keep him, he had a pretty solid year last year considering how much of a pansy he sometimes seemed to be........oh well he was too damn expensive anyway..........now they can get Neidermayer :thumb:

They can still resign him

He'd be a good signing, for a million..and play as a 5th defenseman. But, nothing more than that.
