The Detroit Red Wings have bought out the contracts of defenseman Derian Hatcher, and forwards Ray Whitney and Darren McCarty, TFP has learned.
Similar to what happened in Philadelphia with John LeClair and Tony Amonte, the Wings have placed all three players on waivers. Upon clearing, the Wings will officially buyout their contracts.

Hatcher, 33, played in just 15 regular-season games with Detroit during the 2003-04 season. He missed the remaining 67 games of the season because of a torn ACL and a bruised left shoulder.

In 842 career NHL games, Hatcher has accumulated 71 goals, 227 assists and 1,388 penalty minutes. Whitney, 33, signed with the Wings prior to the 2003-04 season and registered 14 goals and 29 assists in 67 games.

In 700 NHL games with Detroit, Columbus, Florida, Edmonton and San Jose, Whitney has totaled 205 goals and 330 assists. McCarty, who has spent his entire 11-year NHL career with the Red Wings, has played in 643 regular season games, recording 119 goals, 154 assists and 1,275 penalty minutes.

The 33-year-old was originally drafted 46th overall by the Wings in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.
