Hawks will be players in August

The Blackhawks will be able to spend this summer, possibly around $25 million, reports the Chicago Tribune, and that means they expect to lure a few free agents this August. With key restricted free agents Tyler Arnason, Mark Bell, Bryan Berard and Jocelyn Thibault in need of a new deal, the Hawks will be in the market for addition help.
"Why wouldn't anyone want to play here?" Hawks GM Dave Tallon asked the Tribune.
With such superstars as Peter Forsberg, Pevol Demitra, Paul Kariya and Sergei Gonchar available in the free agent pool, the Tribune suggests the Hawks could spend the salary max of $7.8 million on a top NHL athlete.
But by offering a player the maximum salary a GM then is forced to raise his payroll to the maximum $39 million in order to get that salary to the 20-percent limit.
