I think, much to the detriment of the NHL, one of the greatest talents is done with the NHL. It's too bad, because he truly was an amazing NHL'er, who should make it to the HoF without much trouble.

I hope he stays in Sweden. He wasn't doing the rotten Avs any favors. Flopping around and diving all the time.

And he certainly wasn't doing the Canucks any favors. :(

The rotten Avs are deep in talent, they don't need Forsberg.

That is one of the main reasons I would like to see him come back. Other than that he is a fantastic player. :stir:

I like Forsberg and think he is a fantastic player, however I will have to agree that his days as an NHLer are over. He had been hinting for the last couple years that his time in the NHL was over and he was going to play in Sweden, I think the only reason he stayed is he really had no incentive to go. With the lockout wiping out hockey in N.A. he got the push he was looking for and was one of the first to sign in a European league, and I think his contract had no way out of it, which to me sounds like he was done with the NHL before the season was cancelled. Sad to see such a great player go and he will leave a huge hole in the Avs offense.

Seems to me (as well) that Forsberg has been talking about leaving the NHL for years now.

Forsberg wants to return to Denver

TSN.ca Staff

4/19/2005

Peter Forsberg says he's looking forward to playing in the NHL next season with the Colorado Avalanche.

"That's his mind-set at the moment," Forsberg's agent Don Baizley tells the Denver Post. "and I don't think he's looking to get out of Denver. He loves Denver."

Under the old collective bargaining agreement, Forsberg was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent when he turns 32 this summer. While the two sides have yet to reach a new agreement, Baizley expects Forsberg will still be eligible for free agency but that doesn't mean he is looking to leave.

"I haven't seen a proposal that would increase (the age requirement)," Baizley tells the newspaper. "

An Avalanche spokesperson said the team would not comment on any player contract issues until there is a new agreement in place.

Another issue which might prevent Forsberg's return to Denver is a salary cap. Currently, the Avalanche have committed more than $30-million to 11 players for next season. With talk of a cap at $42.5-million per team, that doesn't leave a lot of room for the team to sign Forsberg and fill out the remainder of the roster.

Forsberg elected to play this past year with MoDo of the Swedish league regardless of how CBA talks went between the NHL and the union. However, he suffered a wrist injury and concussion at the end of the season, which will prevent him from playing in the upcoming world hockey championship. Baizley says Forsberg has recovered from the effects of the concussion and the wrist injury is almost healed as well.

Yes he has stated he would like to play for Colorado....My 23 year-old-son hangs with Forsberg and Hinote whenever they are in town.....He misses the intensity of NHL hockey and his friends of course....If there is a season this coming fall, Forsberg will be wearing Avalanche colors yet again......He is always welcome on my favorite team.....

Forsberg wants to play for Avs

Posted: Sunday June 12, 2005 2:22PM; Updated: Sunday June 12, 2005 2:22PM

DENVER (AP) -- Peter Forsberg wants to return to the Colorado Avalanche if a proposed salary cap doesn't make him too expensive for the club, his agent says.

Forsberg, who has played for only one NHL franchise, the Quebec Nordiques-turned-Avalanche, has spent much of the past month in the Denver area.

"If something could be worked out in Colorado, he'd be happy," Forsberg's agent, Don Baizley, said from Winnipeg, Manitoba. "But he knows very well that it's a whole new ball game here."

Baizley said it will depend on how much the Avalanche could offer the Swedish center under parameters of a salary cap, and would Forsberg be willing to accept significantly less money from Colorado than from a team with far more flexibility and money to spend under the cap?

"There are just so many unknowns, you start to make yourself crazy looking at it," Baizley said. "I see Peter as a guy who would be unrestricted, and we'll have to see what options are available."

Forsberg eager for NHL return
TSN.ca Staff

Coloraro Avalanche star Peter Forsberg sounds eager to return to the NHL if there is a 2005-06 season. ''I'm looking forward to next year,'' the 31-year-old center told the Rocky Mountain News. ''I missed it a little bit, playing here, yes.''

Forsberg would like to return to the Avalanche if it is makes sense under the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement.

''I've always had a good time here playing and I've always had a good team,'' Forsberg said to the paper. ''There's a lot of things that have to work out, but I've always liked it here in Colorado. Everything's got to be worked out. I wouldn't have any problem coming back.''

Forsberg is currently undergoing rehabilitation for dislocated bones in his right hand, which he hurt while playing for MoDo in the Swedish Elite League.

Yes...(?)
