UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CP) - The New York Islanders will spend the first week of training camp skating, training and bonding in Yarmouth, N.S.

''Nova Scotia is a very special place and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to spend a week there,'' said Islanders general manager Mike Milbury. ''It is going to be an ideal week to come together as a team in preparation for such an important season.''

The Islanders will arrive in Nova Scotia on Sept 12. Along with daily workouts at Yarmouth's Mariners Centre, the team will play two intra-squad games before returning home.

The team has not been to Canada for training camp since a mid-'90s visit to Kitchener, Ont., when Don Maloney was GM and Milbury was coach.

A full slate of exhibition games - scheduled to be released in a few days - follows the trip to Yarmouth.

The seven pre-season games over 10 days includes two games each against the Rangers, Boston and Philadelphia.

Word is Milbury is trading 3 draft picks for the ceremonial key to the city.

Glad to see Yarmouth attract something of this scale.
