View Full Version : Malkin prime for the picking?
Total hearsay from me.. but I'm hoping K-Lowe is on the phone with Mario right now for 3 reasons.
#1 Malkin is now the #2 C for Pittsburgh.
#2 Transfer payments are payments that Pittsburgh doesn't have the money to cover.
#3 Crosby stated he'd love to play in Edmonton - specifically because he could then continue to play with MA Pouliot.
Obviously the first 2 apply to everyone while the third is solely an Oiler point.. however, does anyone think it's possible for Malkin to be moved now, or will Pittsburgh want to have the 1-2 punch ala Mario-Francis and Sakic-Foppa?

I don't know... I really don't see anybody trading this kid. How often is a first-overall pick traded (Lindros aside) before he's played an NHL game, let alone the most anticipated pick in 20 years? Obviously, as the team with the first pick Pittsburgh would be smart to listen to a good offer, but it would have to be one of incredible value, I'd think, for them to trade this number one pick.
However, as always, I'm not Karnak the Magnificent, so who knows? Frankly, I think the Penguins would be pretty stupid to trade the boy.

I tend to agree with Daryl. If they trade this kid and he lives up to the hype... Pittsburgh is going to look pretty dumb for trading him. On the other hand, if the offer is eye-popping enough, they might just have to entertain it.
Look what Lindros fetched. Of course the only reason he was traded is because he forced it.
I also look at it this way. Teams will be hard pressed right now to put together a package of current-value players. So many are unsigned. Many top players that are signed make too much money and will either be bought out this week, or be too expensive for the dirt poor Pens. So what does that leave teams to offer? Picks and prospects.
Well, the most coveted pick and prospect of them all right now already belongs to Pittsburgh. You just don't trade him away unless you seriously feel that you'll be better off in the long run.
Now that the financial playing field has evened. Pittsburgh stands to possibly become a perrenial powerhouse with Crosby and Fleury the pillars of the future.

Have a source for that one? This is the first time I've heard of it.

Habs going after Crosby
TheFourthPeriod.com
The Pittsburgh Penguins wouldn't trade away their prize in Sidney Crosby, right? Well, if hell freezes over, the may ship him off to the Canadiens.
Habs GM Bob Gainey said that he and his staff will discuss the possibility of bringing the superstar-in-the-making to the Canadiens, reports the Montreal Gazette.
"It's a discussion worth having," Gainey said. "I think Pittsburgh plans to keep the No. 1, but until you explore the possibilities, you never know what can happen."
Landing Crosby is a definite longshot, but Gainey indicated the junior star isn't the only possibility the Canadiens will explore as they prepare this off-season. While he has to make decisions on about 20 unsigned players in the organization, the Gazette claims Gainey will have time to look at unrestricted free agents.
"I think we have places available for unrestricted free agents," he said.
"What we'll do is set up a priority list of players we're interested in. We'll contact them, let them know what we're all about and why it would be good for them to consider playing for us."
Meanwhile, the Canadiens will kick off the 2005-06 season Oct. 5 in Boston.
If you ask me, Montreal has NOTHING outside of Ryder, Theodore & Koivu worth even dangling in front of Patricks' eyes...

Komisarek, Souray, Zednik, are among others
But as I have mentioned before..I wouldn't overhaul the team for Crosby.

Exactly. It would be counter-productive for the Habs.
Redden, Havlat and Ottawa's 1st rounder could work....hehe.

HEY! That's my excuse.
For now it works just fine  :thumb:
I definetly read it somewhere.. or heard it on TSN. Regardless, I'll look around, I just remember it wasn't so much that it was Edmonton as much as he enjoyed playing with Pouliot.. hence why Pittsburgh would/should be interested in the kid.
