1 Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby
Note: The hockey phenom arrives with the team that probably needs him the most - Pittsburgh.
2 Mighty Ducks of Anaheim Jack Johnson
Note: The offensive defenceman has drawn comparisons to Chris Chelios and Brian Leetch.
3 Carolina Hurricanes Benoit Pouliot
Note: A line of Pouliot, Eric Staal and Andrew Ladd certainly sounds enticing.
4 Minnesota Wild Bobby Ryan
Note: Ryan would add a lot of muscle and skill up front for a Wild team that needs it.
5 Montreal Canadiens Gilbert Brule
Note: If the new rule changes hold up, the small, skilled winger will thrive with the Habs.
6 Columbus Blue Jackets Anze Kopitar
Note: Nash and Zherdev could be looking at a future set-up man in the Slovenian pivot.
7 Chicago Blackhawks Ryan O'Marra
Note: He's a safe pick who could be a solid, if not spectacular NHL player.
8 Atlanta Thrashers Marc Staal
Note: Imagine a blueline with Staal, Boris Valabik and Braydon Coburn in the near future...pretty solid.
9 Ottawa Senators Carey Price
Note: Hasek can't play forever, and a tandem of Price and Ray Emery sounds promising in net.
10 Vancouver Canucks Jack Skille
Note: The Canucks have been keen on players from U.S. programs, and Skille would fit the bill.
11 Los Angeles Kings Luc Bourdon
Note: Bourdon would compliment a young Kings team, especially on the blueline.
12 San Jose Sharks Martin Hanzal
Note: At 6'5, Hanzal is a potential monster who could bolster the Sharks up front.
13 Buffalo Sabres Brian Lee
Note: Lee is headed to North Dakota, where fellow Sabres' prospect Drew Stafford plays.
14 Washington Capitals Tuukka Rask
Note: An early pick at 14, but after Kolzig and Maxime Ouellet, the Caps need a project in goal.
15 New York Islanders Marek Zagrapan
Note: A wild card first-round pick, but Zagrapan could be a good sleeper at No. 15.
16 New York Rangers Alex Bourret
Note: No Sidney Crosby, but Bourret could be a prolific scorer in his own right.
17 Phoenix Coyotes Ryan Parent
Note: Nothing flashy from this defenceman, but he'll be a solid defender on the blueline.
18 Nashville Predators Andrew Cogliano
Note: The gifted centre will one day bring much-needed speed and skill down the middle.
19 Detroit Red Wings Guillaume Latendresse
Note: The power forward from Drummondville could be a steal in the late first-round.
20 Philadelphia Flyers Kenndal McArdle
Note: With tenacity and hard work already on his resume, McArdle is a prototypcial Bob Clarke player.
21 Toronto Maple Leafs Devin Setoguchi
Note: The Leafs need a lot of depth in their youth movement, and Setoguchi is a good start.
22 Boston Bruins Niklas Bergfors
Note: The reviews are mixed on him, but the Bruins may be willing to wait.
23 New Jersey Devils Dan Bertram
Note: With Bertram in the mix, the Devils will have a lot of good projects up front.
24 St. Louis Blues Jakub Kindl
Note: The Blues need to nurture some blueline talent, and Kindl could be the cornerstone.
25 Edmonton Oilers Brendan Mikkelson
Note: Mikkelson would be the first D-man taken by Edmonton in Round 1 since 1996.
26 Calgary Flames Ryan Stoa
Note: The Flames need to work on a long-term prospect at centre, and Stoa is a solid late-rounder.
27 Colorado Avalanche Paul Stastny
Note: The Avs go off the board and into the past...sort of. Having another Stastny would be perfect.
28 Dallas Stars Michael Blunden
Note: The Stars would be getting a big, strong power forward type who can skate well.
29 Florida Panthers Matt Lashoff
Note: With one of the deepest farm systems in the league, Lashoff is a good project at No 29.
30 Tampa Bay Lightning Ondrej Pavelec
Note: The goaltending situation is a bit murky. Might as well get some long term insurance.
Few things I noticed..
Brule goes 5th overall, but he's close to Crosby, right Vancouver? :D
Asides from that, Kopitar at 6th would be a steal for Columbus and would make them look like cup contenders in the near future. 13th is very early for Brian Lee, there's talk of him sliding to 25th in the Edmonton Sun today from Robin Brownlee (Who is usually very accurate on pre-draft talk). No way does Bourrett slide to 16th for the Rangers. The Oilers won't take a defenseman in the first round, espeacilly if someon like Stoa is still around. We've got Semenov/MAB already in the NHL and under 23, Greene is pro ready, Lynch is coming off an injury, so it's hard to peg him, but he could very well be NHL ready, and Woywitka could still put it together as well. There's also the wild card Roman Tesliuk.
Anyway.. that's all I really took from that.
