Twenty more for Bertuzzi?
Sportsnet.ca
Todd Bertuzzi won't be in the lineup for the Vancouver Canucks come opening day. According to a report out of the Vancouver Province, sources have told the newspaper commissioner Gary Bettman will announce next week that the winger will receive an additional 10-20 games for his March 8, 2004 sucker-punch on Colorado Avalanche centre Steve Moore.
"It's going to come down next week so the league can get on with the business side [entry draft; free agency]," a source told the Province.
"They [NHL] have already made their minds up and it's only fair to the Canucks because if Bertuzzi wants out, then there's little time to go after unrestricted free agents and qualify the restricted free agents they've got."

Bertuzzi's agent, Pat Morris, was skeptical of the alleged added suspension saying he has received no indication that his client will serve more time.
"That's somebody guessing one way or the other," he said. "I'm not aware of Todd getting any more time." Bertuzzi is under contract for the 2005-06 season at a rolled-back base salary of $5.421 million US.

As it should be.

ALL HAIL BERT!
Where is this story from...?
Thats right, the Vancouver Province..the tabloid of the city
But go ahead, believe it if you wish
As Morris said when asked of this tabloid story..
"That's somebody guessing one way or the other," he said. "I'm not aware of Todd getting any more time."
He's suffered enough already.
Longest suspension in NHL history, couldn't play in Europe and missed the World Champs (x2) and the World Cup.
I thought the NHL wanted a "fresh start" to the league? Why drag this crap back into the spotlight? Bertuzzi has served enough of a suspension. Let's put it in the past and move on.

What ever, whenever Bettman rules there will be those who think it is too lienient and those who say it was too long.
When he played with Naslund and Morrision or with the twins in the past two seasons, it made for entertaining hockey for we Canuck fans. When he had his brain cramps and took very stupid penalties for gooning it was frustrating and embarassing. I want to see him on skates as soon as possible.

What the? Bertuzzi has already sat out the last year* and now Bettman wants to tack on some more games. Way to go, Bettman. The Canucks get to start another era with things as cloudy as ever.
Bertuzzi wants to leave, Naslund is being vague about his intentions, Cloutier wants to stay. The Canucks are screwed.
*I know there was a lockout, I'm just being a smartass with that comment

I think its important to remember, that this article is not confirmed. Also, I think its important to remember that Bert's agent knows nothing about anything.
If you are Bettman, do you talk to his agent first? :thumb:

I personally think he's served his time, if you keep him out for any longer, you put one franchise at a disadvantage and I think with this clean slate, fresh start mentality that they are trying to accomplish it is time to re-instate him.

Good point. Too bad Bettman doesn't think in such logical terms.

And Mr Moore? Well he's not going to be back anytime soon, if ever is he? 20 more games for Bert against total loss of a career for Moore, that doesn't seem to harsh for Bert.
It's too bad the franchise has to suffer but then most of the franchise were almost as guilty as Bert so I guess they should pay too.
But of course then there are the fans. They're suffering too because they won't get to see their beloved Bert play anytime soon. But then, most of the fans seemed to be with Bert in all this so I guess it's fair they be punished too.

I understand what you're saying about Steve Moore, I mean I was one of those who really criticized Bertuzzi at the time of the incident and his criminal trial. But after a year with no hockey whatsoever, and especially for Bertuzzi who because of his suspension, couldn't play in europe, or in any international tournaments, it's been long enough. Also I do know Moore has already launched a civil suit where he will more then likely be awarded a hefty sum of money, and by doing this I believe Moore wants to get his justice his own way and now it is really out of the NHL hands. We'll see, I just would like things to return to usual and having every team given a fair chance to win that's all.

Well said. I will not rehash the whole thing again but suffice it to say, Bert deserves everything he gets.
