Owens: 'I don't really have to play for the Eagles'

An Eagle could be taking flight.

As a war of words between Eagles president Joe Banner and Terrell Owens heats up, T.O. told CSS SportsNite in Atlanta on Thursday that he is willing to leave Philly if the team won't redo his contract, which still has six years remaining on a $49 million deal.

"It doesn't bother me," Owens said about Banner's comments. "When it all boils down to it, I'm doing what's best for my family. Not to stir anything up, but I don't really have to play for the Eagles, to be honest. I can go play with any other team and still be productive.

"If feels that way, then get rid of me," he continued. [B]"I have no gripes, no ill feelings toward any of the players on that team. This is business. They know how business is conducted. I've told them what I'm doing is for my family. If they can't understand that -- and if they feel like I'm a no-nonsense guy -- he wants to talk about Drew and I -- if we're problems then I feel like we can be adults about it. Trade me. Release me, and we can part ways like adults."

Owens has a specific idea of where he'd like to be traded.

"If Joe Banner can give Drew Rosenhaus permission to seek a trade," he told SportsNite, "who knows, Atlanta might be on the list of people that I could play for."

Owens' comments came after Banner criticized the receiver and agent Drew Rosenhaus in the Philadelphia Daily News.

"If we were dealing with somebody who was looking at this logically and was going to come to a common-sense conclusion, you'd say [he'll report to camp on time]," Banner told the Daily News. "But you're dealing with two people here who, frankly, don't think in common-sense terms. Anything can happen. They're not going to necessarily do what makes sense."

Rosenhaus told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the odds of Owens reporting to training camp on time are "50-50." Owens himself told CSS SportsNite on Thursday that, despite the possible fines, he likely won't attend camp. The Daily News, citing a source in the NFL players' association with knowledge of Owens' contract, reported that the Eagles could fine T.O. five-sixths of the $2.25 million signing bonus Owens received after being traded last year, meaning Owens could be out $1.87 million.

Most of what Owens says boggles my mind. I looked this article up after seeing part of an interview on TSN.

"doing what's best for my family"? He's making 7 million per year.

"They know how business is conducted"? Maybe in Owen's fantasy world. He signed the deal last season and now demands more money, a trade or he plans to hold out until one of the two happens. If he was a real businessman, he honour his contract.

"Trade me. Release me, and we can part ways like adults." Owens stopped acting like an adult the moment he demanded to rework his contract.

Joe Banner's comment (the highlighted one) makes a lot of sense.

I'd like the Eagles to wait Owens out and keep fining him. :D

Eagles WR's agent says 'odds are 50-50' he'll be at camp

It seems as if Terrell Owens never ceases to amaze the sporting world as much off the field as on. The latest controversy concerning the Philadelphia Eagles holdout wide receiver? Comparing himself to Jesus Christ.

Owens, who wants a renegotiation of his seven-year, $49 million deal, which he signed last year, was asked about his contract conflict with the Eagles and told the Miami Herald, "I don't have to worry about what people think of me, whether they hate me or not. People hated on Jesus. They threw stones at him and tried to kill him, so how can I complain or worry about what people think?

"How can you justify hating me after I worked so hard rehabilitating from a broken leg to get back to the Super Bowl to help our team try to win? Really, you've got to look at who the villain really is in this thing."

Owens: 'I still believe I deserve a new contract'
ESPN.com news services

Terrell Owens apparently will be at Eagles camp after all.

A day after hinting that he would agree to a trade because of a contract dispute, Owens told the Philadelphia Inquirer he would report to training camp on Aug. 1 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

The controversial wide receiver told the newspaper he remains unhappy with his seven-year, $49 million contract and that he wouldn't mind being traded.

"I'll be there," Owens told the Inquirer on Friday. "I mean, the bottom line is that I still believe I deserve a new contract. I still believe I deserve more than what they've given me. But I'm not stupid. I'm not about to miss training camp, get fined every day and give them even more reasons to keep from paying me.

"I'll be there but I won't be happy, I can tell you that much. Take from that whatever you want," he said.

However, Drew Rosenhaus, Owens' agent, said Friday in a taping for ESPN's NFL Live that the report in the Philadelphia Inquirer which quotes Owens as saying he would attend training camp "is not definitive."

Rosenhaus told The Associated Press that he hopes to work out a fair-market deal for his client.

"We hope it's something we can work out with the Philadelphia Eagles," Rosenhaus told The Associated Press, adding he had talked recently with the Eagles. "If it's something we can work out with another team, that is not something we are opposed to."

He acknowledged that the Eagles have told him they aren't interested in trading the receiver.

"We have not received permission to seek a trade," Rosenhaus said.

What has Terrel ever done to deserve the money? Has he ever lead a team anywhere? Last season he was a middle of the pack receiver stats wise. Call his bluff, don't renegotiate.

Last season he was a middle of the pack receiver stats wise. Call his bluff, don't renegotiate.

For a fount of useless information you dropped the ball on this one, KB :thumb:

He finished 10 in receiving yards with 1200. The leader Muhammad had 1405, but he played 2 more games in the season. If Owens didn't get hurt it's very likely you would of led the league in that stat. He was fifth in yards/game, and he finished third in TD receptions with 14. The leader had 16, so once again, if he played the whole season he probably would've led that stat. Last season Owens was argueably the best receiver in the league, and if you look at Donovan McNabb you'll see that all of his stats greatly improved with Owens as his number one receiver.

Season Team G QBRat Comp Att Pct Yds Y/G Y/A TD Int
1999 Philadelphia 12 60.1 106 216 49.1 948 79.0 4.4 8 7
2000 Philadelphia 16 77.8 330 569 58.0 3365 210.3 5.9 21 13
2001 Philadelphia 16 84.3 285 493 57.8 3233 202.1 6.6 25 12
2002 Philadelphia 10 86.0 211 361 58.4 2289 228.9 6.3 17 6
2003 Philadelphia 16 79.6 275 478 57.5 3216 201.0 6.7 16 11
2004 Philadelphia 15 104.7 300 469 64.0 3875 258.3 8.3 31 8

Now with all that said, I agree that the Eagles shouldn't renegotiate with Owens. He got out of San Fran even though he wasn't a free agent, got out of Baltimore because he didn't wanna play there, ended up in his destination of choice in Philly, and got the 15 million up front he wanted. He's the third highest paid receiver behind Moss and Harrison (two of the best receivers to ever play the game), and that's where he belongs.

Man this is like watching a train wreck. I honestly can't remember any other player having such an adverse affect on his team.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Donovan McNabb insisted he wasn't stung by criticism from Terrell Owens, laughing off the banished wide receiver's remarks before turning serious and telling him to "keep my name out of your mouth."

While Owens left his home for the Bahamas, McNabb joked with reporters, tapped the mikes and rubbed his hands together before taking his seat inside a jammed media tent shortly after Philadelphia's practice Friday.

"Yeah! C'mon, bring it!" McNabb said to laughter.

Owens again blasted McNabb on two separate interviews with ESPN on Thursday, calling the quarterback a "hypocrite" and saying the two of them could not be successful together. Owens also said he had no desire to speak with McNabb.

"It's so funny to me how my name keeps getting thrown out there," McNabb said. "You've just got to have fun with it and that's exactly what we're doing."

Owens was told to go home Wednesday after a heated dispute with coach Andy Reid -- and to stay there for a week. He's since lifted weights and shot hoops in front of the reporters camped outside his house and had harsh words for Reid and McNabb in TV interviews.

On Friday morning, Owens left his Moorestown, N.J., home with two suitcases and went to Philadelphia International Airport, where he told KYW-TV as he headed to a security gate: "I'm going to the Bahamas. I'm going to get a tan."

McNabb, light and smiling throughout his interview, agreed with Owens the two didn't necessarily have to speak to win.

"I still to this day see no reason for us to talk," McNabb said. "When we step on this field, it's all about business. We're professionals that line up and do the right thing."

This was the second time this year McNabb has warned Owens to stop talking about him.

After Owens complained that McNabb was tired in the Super Bowl, McNabb said "Just keep my name out of your mouth," during a mandatory mini-camp.

McNabb, who made a recruiting pitch to get Owens to Philadelphia before last season, was tired of hearing Owens complain.

"Now for my name to be thrown out again, this is the second time. Keep my name out of your mouth," he said. "Keep my family's name out of your mouth."

Owens called McNabb a "hypocrite" on Thursday because the quarterback said publicly that he did not want to meet with Owens, while T.O said McNabb did try to arrange a meeting.

McNabb said he didn't learn until Thursday that his brother did reach out to someone close to Owens to arrange a meeting where the two Eagles could possibly work out their differences.

McNabb was bothered that Owens brought his family into his televised rants.

"My family doesn't need to be involved in any of this. I don't need to be involved in any of this," he said. "Now when you bring my family into it, I have a problem."

That little show Terrell Owens put on for the media and fans outside his home on Wednesday was quite possibly the funniest thing I have ever seen an athlete do off the field of play (Mike Tyson included). I don't care what this is doing to the team, I'm glad that he's entertaining. Also I don't find this Terrell Owens & Drew Rosenhaus versus Jeffrey Lurie & the Philadelphia Eagles saga annoying. Even Stephen A. Smith is off his bandwagon now.

Stephen A. Smith | No longer any reason to cut T.O. some slack

By Stephen A. Smith

Inquirer Columnist

He had me until the sit-ups.

Before that spectacle at his home on Wednesday afternoon - and it can be described as nothing else - Terrell Owens had a case.

There was a $48,724,000 contract. There were legitimate concerns about whether the Eagles would honor it entirely. There was a system that appears far from player-friendly. And a birth certificate that mandates that he look out for his self-interest.

But after that fiasco at his home in Moorestown, which would give any circus a run for its money, Owens has become a caricature of himself. The situation has surpassed embarrassing. So much so that regardless of his case, its merits or any genuine passion behind it, his actions simply cannot be defended any longer.

A player can't be defended when he tells his offensive coordinator not to speak to him unless he's spoken to. No player can be defended when he continues to take one jab after another at a teammate who has said nothing about him, especially when that teammate happens to be Donovan McNabb, the star.

Such flagrant insubordination, disrespect and defiance can never be tolerated - even if Eagles coach Andy Reid told Owens to shut up, as Owens claimed Reid did.

Reid and the Eagles' organization would be absolute fools to tolerate any more of this nonsense.

And the rest of us would be fools to grant Owens the benefit of the doubt any longer.

Myself included.

While a city strapped itself to the Eagles' cause, spewing venom in Owens' direction because of his contract squabbles and the egregious manner in which he allowed his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to handle things, I never saw much of a problem.

What I saw was Owens' 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns; the infusion of some personality that the Eagles desperately needed; and McNabb's 3,875-yard output, along with 31 TD passes, last season.

Owens has a seven-year deal. His talent screams that he's worth every penny of the $48.7 million and then some. And because a collective-bargaining agreement allows the Eagles to go to a player to cut his salary or waive any long-term obligations, I see no problem with a player's attempting to revisit his contractual situation if he performs up to par.

Particularly when the alternative is Greg Lewis and some no-name who may not even end up being better than Todd Pinkston.

But taking into account Owens' petulance and insubordination and then his pleas for sympathy - with Rosenhaus literally holding his hand - the situation is downright sickening, no longer capable of being stomached.

If Owens was so insulted, so frustrated by Reid's telling him to shut up, why didn't he just leave training camp, go away and vent his frustration, after getting the week off?

Why did he go home and entertain a media contingent he had spent a week ignoring?

Why did he shoot basketballs, lift weights, and do sit-ups in his yard to entertain the reporters?

Where was the frustration? The anger? The look that's on the faces of most people who have been "disrespected," as Owens has continuously claimed to have been over the last few weeks?

I didn't see that on Wednesday when he was talking to the media. I saw too much of it on Thursday while he was sitting side-by-side with Rosenhaus, getting interviewed by everyone but Barbara Walters.

Meanwhile, the one person displaying class in this whole ordeal ends up being the one person insulted by Owens the most.

"I still, to this day, see no reason for us to talk," McNabb said, responding to Owens' saying he had no desire to speak to the quarterback. "When we step on this field, it's all about business. We're professionals that line up and do the right thing."

The right thing for Owens still could have had everything to do with pursuing a new contract. He could have stayed unhappy, let it be known, maintained his rift with McNabb and a few others, and simply gone about his business.

Instead, he keeps going too far. He even claims now that he signed a secret waiver to play in the Super Bowl - a claim the Eagles categorically deny. He signs autographs for kids when the cameras are away after refusing for days to sign them when the cameras were rolling.

The situation has surpassed ridiculous purely because Owens appears to have no clue about how ridiculous he looks.

"I'm a good teammate," he said. "Just because I don't speak to a couple of guys doesn't mean anything. I have no desire to speak to [McNabb]."

Well, that's smart - a receiver has no desire to develop chemistry with the guy assigned to throw him the ball.

Brilliant! Now let's see if it gets him a new contract.

Sadly, we know it won't happen. At least not to Owens' liking.

It's time to dismiss this case.

If I was the Eagles, I would have my legal team do every last thing possible to $*#@ over both T.O. and his agent Rosenhaus. He has made himself both unemployable and untradable. He is in the process of doing tremendous damage to the Eagles franchise if they are indeed stuck with his dollars against the cap. It's time for them to fight back. Yeah they could cut him loose.... but they made an investment in him for the long term well-being of their team, and he now has put them in a position to lose his "once valuable" talents for nothing in return.

I say "once valuable" because I can't imagine any team would take him in a trade at this point.

That ridiculous trade was brought up a couple months ago by Skip Bayless. He is on Cold Pizza on ESPN2. Bayless suggested a straight up trade of Jerry Porter for TO. This trade would never happen because of the cap problem that would arise and the contrasting attitudes of TO and Moss. Also, Porter is good but he is no TO and will never be of the caliber of TO. I've said that the only trade that would be acceptable IMO is TO for either Javon Walker or Chad Johnson. Both are young WRs and capable of being just as good as Owens.

Well, Drew Rosenhaus has become the most well known agent over the summer, Mel because he has some many clients and have threatened to hold them out. But all have reported to camp, I'm pretty sure.

I'm not sure why you brought up Chad Johnson, and I don't know if he is a Rosenhaus client but he has openly said that if he wanted more money, he would simply go out onto the field and prove that he deserves more money, like players should. He also said that he is his own person and wouldn't let his agent tell him what to do.

Mel

I was just teeing off on Rosenhaus that's all. You actually brought up Chad Johnson (and I checked he is a Rosenhaus client).

Johnson hired Rosenhaus mainly for his off-season finances... the 6 months out of the year they don't get paid.

I just hate Rosenhaus... but I don't necesarilly think he's wrong in his reasoning. He's foaming at the mouth to renegotiate Johnson calling him grossly underpaid. Johnson waves off such talk for now, but don't be surprised if Rosenhaus gets inside his head soon enough.

I don't hate Rosenhaus because he works hard for his players and recognizes the relative injustice in the NFL salary system.... I hate him because he non-chalantly tells the media reporters to have Brett Favre "give him a call" regarding the status of Jevon Walker. Like Favre now has to take time out of his day to call some agent. He's an arrogant s.o.b.

To add to my mini-rant...yes TO showed up for camp, but he's made that just as bad (if not worse) than holding out - so I don't differentiate. I still maintain that he's an absolute idiot scumbag loser. No matter where he plays if hope he gets hurt again.

That's another thing... if Rosenhaus really wants fairness.... did TO get paid for the games he missed last year? or is he prepared to give that money back. I'd really like to know.

Harumph - end rant - must get back to work :)

Tune in tomorrow for the sequel: "T.O. returns..."

Eagles inform Owens in writing of behavior issues

The Philadelphia Eagles have sent wide receiver Terrell Owens a letter outlining what they perceive is a series of behavioral problems over the last two weeks, a league source told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.

Owens acknowledged in a conversation on Monday with ESPN's Michael Irvin that he had received the letter.

The letter was sent over the weekend and arrived at Owens' home in Atlanta on Monday, two days before he is scheduled to meet with head coach Andy Reid at the Eagles' practice facility.

In the meantime, a message posted Monday on Owens' Web site said the wide receiver will return to training camp and said he had become "the media's favorite whipping boy."

The message is attributed to terrellowens.com and does not indicate whether Owens wrote it, or otherwise approved of its contents. An e-mail to the Web site asking whether Owens wrote or approved of the message was not immediately returned late Monday afternoon.

"This situation has mushroomed far beyond what should be considered adequate coverage, and Terrell has become the media's favorite whipping boy. While this is discouraging, Terrell knows this is part of the business. To the fans he simply says that this was an isolated incident that was not premeditated. Terrell in no way wishes to be a disruption to the ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl. In fact Terrell has gone out of his way to diffuse the tension by keeping to himself in all non-practice related affairs. During practice and work related situations he has been and will be attentive and responsive; Terrell only asks what every other worker in America asks for, respect and dignity."

"[Owens] will return to camp and continue to display the work ethic, and on-the-field dedication that has made him one of the world's most elite athletes," the message reads. "...Terrell plans to reward you with a season for the ages. Where small men succumb, great men overcome!"

Eagles officials, most notably Reid, have been compiling detailed notes on Owens' behavior, delineating any incident they deemed questionable, in case the club needed documentation in any grievance or arbitration case.

A source characterized the letter as the beginning of a process to suspend Owens from the team if Owens' behavior does not change after that meeting takes place. Owens is expected, according to the Eagles, to rejoin the team on Wednesday, but Reid has said he would only allow Owens back on the field if he sees a marked change in his behavior and attitude.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- No high-five, no handshake, not even a nod of approval.

Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens already weren't speaking to each other. No surprise they aren't exchanging congratulations, either.

The feuding stars hooked up for a 64-yard touchdown pass on the first play, helping the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Cincinnati Bengals 27-17 in a preseason game Friday night.

Playing together for the first time since their public spat began in April, McNabb and Owens picked up where they left off last year. In just one half, Owens caught five passes for 131 yards, and McNabb threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns.

``It was business as usual,'' McNabb said.

Weak NFC or not, we are still easily the best of the bunch. It is starting to bug me when people bring up the weak NFC, like that's the only reason we are successful. The Eagles have the most wins since 2000, and it's not because they are in a weak conference, it's because they are well managed and coached, and have excellent players. If the Eagles played in the AFC, I would still expect them to make it to the conference game and possibl the Bowl every year.

The team is crumbling, and T.O. is the main reason.

That's a shame. I don't recall ever seeing a single NFL player drag his own team down the toilet like this idiot has.

I actually find it slightly ironic that much of T.O.'s poison stems from his (and his agent's) belief that he is the most valuable wide receiver in football... yet with every new chapter of this soap opera, his perceived value is degrading more and more.

RIght now, I'd say there are very few NFL teams that would take T.O. And certainly no team is going to open up the vault with a long-term contract, and be stuck like the Eagles are... with this malcontented, obnoxious, me-first-team-last, a$$ wipe of a person.

I'd be surprised if any NFL contenders pursued T.O. Whenever and however his Eagle's affiliation mercifully ends... I believe he'll wind up playing for a cellar team, willing to put up with him just for publicity and/or lack of better options. I seriously doubt he'll ever make more money than the current contract he walked out on this summer.

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that Terrell Owens will not be back with the team (http://www.tsn.ca/nfl/news_story.asp?id=142319) following his four game suspension. So expect him to be traded or straight-up released.

Does this mean the defending NFC Champion will not make the playoffs?

It does not look good for them to win the NFC East, nothing's impossible, but they will not be able to win the division without a battle. They sit in last place. Next Monday night, old Eagle enemy Bill Parcells brings his rejuvenated Cowboys to town, then 6 days later, they'll travel to Giants Stadium where New York has yet to lose this season...

Nov 14 Dallas 9:00pm
Nov 20 @N.Y. Giants 1:00pm
Nov 27 Green Bay 4:15pm
Dec 5 Seattle 9:00pm
Dec 11 N.Y. Giants 4:05pm
Dec 18 @St. Louis 4:15pm
Dec 24 @Arizona 4:05pm
Jan 1 Washington 4:15pm

current standings:

N.Y. Giants 6-2
Dallas 5-3
Washington 5-3
Philadelphia 4-4

Realistically if the Eagles hope to salvage this season, the next 2 games are critical. If they lose both and drop to 4-6, they can kiss the division goodbye, and would need a lot of good fortune to squeeze into the playoffs.

I could see Atlanta rolling the dice on him (if they have the cap room).

I can only see the Raiders picking up TO, at least for the money he wants. Anywhere else he will get a one year deal and not for as much money as he wants. I don't know what he is trying to prove but it definitely didn't work out for him. Teams have already expressed their dislike for him and said they don't want him on the team.

What really pisses me off is that I defended him when everyone said he was a cancer. I said it was a completely different situation in San Fran and it'll be different here. Well, about 18 months later, and TO has destroyed what was left of his image around the league and my arguement. And the real sad thing is that TO had Philly in the palm of his hand and threw it out the window. I can't wait for the game when the Eagles get to play against TO again. Micheal Lewis, Brian Dawkins, Jeremiah Trotter, even Jevon Kearse I'm sure would all love to knock him out.

That's a good candid look at the situation, but I have to think TO will find a home once the dust settles. Keyshawn Johnson was similarly "deactivated" by the Bucs in mid-season a few years ago. He's now in Dallas reunited with Bill Parcells.

Honestly one coach who I think could handle TO is Parcells. Well known as a " tough no-nonsense" guy (I know a lot of stories from his days with both NY teams and the Patriots)... he somehow seems to handle the Keyshawn Johnson's of the world rather easily. I don't know how, but it works. He (Parcells) is an excellent motivator, and one thing he is well known for is how to get the most out of a player... He has a knack for recognizing what motivates an individual, and working that angle. Some thrive under heavy discipline and just do their jobs... some produce better when challenged by the coaching staff, some are most productive in a non-pressure situation. I've been following Coach Parcells since his early Giant days. From all that I've ever heard, he knows how to get the most from players, whether butting heads and shouting (Simms, Bledsoe) or coddling fragile egos (Johnson).

So I could see TO landing on Jerry Jones payroll. Just a hunch. But I doubt Cowboy fans never forgot his ridiculous 50 yard line touchdown celebration... so he'd have to win them over.

Of course where ever he lands, he'll have to work very hard to convince the team that his disruptive days are behind him. I wonder if Rosenhaus now thinks it was probably a mistake to demand renegotiation this summer. I doubt it.

Lastly this one really cracked me up from
http://www.tsn.ca/nfl/news_story.asp?id=142072

Poor Terrell was mad because the Eagles did not put on a fireworks display when he scored his 100th touchdown. Seriously this is a direct quote:
"That right there just shows you the type of class and integrity that they claim not to be," said Owens, who became the sixth receiver in NFL history to reach the milestone. "They claim to be first class and the best organization. It's an embarrassment. My publicist talked to the head PR guy, and they made an excuse they didn't recognize that was coming up. But that was a blatant lie. Had it been somebody else, they probably would have popped fireworks around the stadium."

In all fairness to Owens, he doens't need to be motivated or pushed to be more productive. For all the BS his teams have had to put up with, this is a guy that gives it 110% on the field every game.

You're right about Johnson though. Tuna has kept him under control during his career, and maybe if he had Owens we'd finally see T.O. keep his mouth shut.

11-07-05, 10:37 PM
I'm not sure if anyone could keep TO under control. He doesn't respect anyone, as you could tell by his comments over the past week and summer and then his BS apology. I think the only reason that Parcells has been able to keep Johnson's mouth shut is because Johnson has a huge amount of respect for Parcells. Also Parcells is the only guy that thought Johnson was better than Marvin Harrison. So that may have something to do with it.

Of course where ever he lands, he'll have to work very hard to convince the team that his disruptive days are behind him.

The problem is, I don't think TO will ever learn his lesson, and he'll be a cancer in whatever locker room he ends up in. The only way he'll learn his lesson is if every team in the league shows no interest in acquiring him because of his antics, and even then I'm not sure he'll ever learn his lesson.

I watched about 5 minutes of this BS apology press conference, before I had to turn it. TO comes out, reads an obviously written apology, proving he doesn't truly mean it, and then has Rosehaus take over the press conference and answer questions. What a joke this whole thing is, and I hope the Eagles tell him to **** off.

TO cares about one thing, and that's TO. Anybody who wants to tell me otherwise will have a hard time proving he cares about anybody but himself. Any team that is stupid enough to think they can change him gets what they deserve when he goes off again. He'd be perfect in Oakland.

Mel
11-08-05, 3:59 PM
LFL - you're right. TO needs no motivation to get results on the field... what I was referring to w/ Parcells, was more about his way of keeping head cases in line and concentrating on the job they have to do. He seems to have a knack for that.

Lawrence Taylor was a very troubled player off the field. But he would run through a brick wall for Parcells. Never had a bad word to say. There's always a guy like Keyshawn who you think, "Parcells will never put up with this guy" and then it turns out OK. That's more what I meant.

Anyway the T.O. roller coaster keeps on chugging. :boogie:

I'm guessing that Mr. Rosenhaus shrewdly recognized how The Eagles kicking Owens to the curb is bad for business. I hope they don't cave, and let that bee-atch come back.

MOORESTOWN, N.J. -- A contrite Terrell Owens, hoping to overturn his dismissal from the Philadelphia Eagles, on Tuesday apologized to coach Andy Reid, quarterback Donovan McNabb, the team's owner and president, and fans.

"I fight for what I think is right. In doing so, I alienated a lot of my fans and my teammates," Owens said, reading a statement outside his house outside Philadelphia.

"It really hurts me not to be a part of this team anymore," Owens said.

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Owens was making a public apology in hopes of returning to the Eagles immediately.

"We hope he plays again for the Philadelphia Eagles," Rosenhaus said.

Rosenhaus said Owens wants to return to the Eagles "ASAP."

Owens on Monday was told by the team not to return this season. The decision resulted from "a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time, during which Terrell had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions," Reid said.

The All-Pro wide receiver didn't play in Sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games without pay. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate him for the rest of the season.

He was suspended Saturday, two days after he said the Eagles showed "a lack of class" for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch in a game on Oct. 23. In the same interview with ESPN.com on Thursday, Owens said the Eagles would be better off with Green Bay's Brett Favre at quarterback instead of McNabb.

Owens apologized specifically to Reid, McNabb, Eagles president Joe Banner, owner Jeffrey Lurie and to fans.

To McNabb, Owens said, "I apologize to him for any comments that may have been negative."

I saw the whole media circus on Owens' front lawn today.

That was such B.S. that he and Rosenhaus were throwing out to the attendees.

The Eagles would be wise not to take him back.

Let me start off saying, I don't like Terrel Owens, I never have. That being said, has he been caught doing drugs, or drinking and driving? Has he been in the news and charged with battery of a spouse? Has he been charged with murder/manslaugher/rape etc? The awnser to all that is NO. So what he has a big mouth, so what he speaks his mind. He is one of the top wide outs in the game today and does make any team better with him on the field then off it. Has McNabb or Andy Reid accomplished anything in Philly? NO! Can the Eagles succeed without Terrel Owens,? Sure. Would the Eagles do better with TO in the lineup? Most definatly.

These are men, playing a mans game and yes I understand that there must be some respect towards your fellow player and management but sticks and stones people. He's said sorry and sure, inside he probably doesn't mean it, but who cares, move on and play some football.

I disagree. (kind of)

There is such a thing as conduct detrimental to a team. It doesn't have to be a crime. The more talented the player, the more leniency they are usually given in this department, however even the best players at the highest levels have boundaries.

Joe Banner and Andy Reid both insinuated that there's a whole lot more to this than meets the public eye. I'm sure they've taken into account all you just said Amo (and probably have been on a regular basis ever since T.O. arrived). So it speaks volumes that the Eagles response to Owens latest "press conference" was a quick and pointed "no". He has finally broken the camel's back it seems.

Obviously Owens is doing more harm than good for this organization, and they have opted to cut their losses. Everything from now on is damage control.

How many pro athletes do you know who hold press conferences on their front lawn on a regular basis? It's getting tired already

I like how Rosenhaus emphatically stated how he "believes in" Terrell. Whew that's a relief :slant:

While I would normally agree, I think having somebody around who has no respect for anybody but himself, and has badmouthed the quarterback of the team (especially one with McNabb's status in Philly) can do nothing to help the locker room. Granted, TO is still an amazing player, and unlike Randy Moss he shows up for every game. I think there comes a point though where TO's disrespect for the organization was just too much for the Eagles to handle.

To be honest though, the Eagles are getting exactly what they deserve right now by signing Owens. They knew his history, they knew he quite frequently opens his big mouth, and that the only thing he really cares about is himself. For some reason the Eagles believed they could change TO, or at least restrain him enough to win a championship, and it didn't work. I can't say as I feel sorry for either TO or the Eagles in this mess.

Well Owens lost his arbitration and his season is over. Rosenhaus can't do anything about it.

The Eagles are within their rights to disallow Owens from playing NFL football again this season, and barring unexpected circumstance, like a can't-refuse trade offer, it looks like that's exactly what will happen.

Eagles file tampering complaint against Cowboys
NEW YORK -- The Philadelphia Eagles have filed a tampering complaint against the Dallas Cowboys after Dallas owner Jerry Jones suggested on a radio show that his team is often interested in players such as suspended wide receiver Terrell Owens.

"In general, I am a risk-taker. We've gone down that road," Jones said when asked if the Cowboys might be interested in Owens. "I probably have a propensity to try and make things work. ... A top receiver could flourish with Drew Bledsoe. That's always appealing."

NFL spokesman Michael Signora confirmed Sunday the Eagles filed the complaint over Jones' remark and said "the matter is under review."

Owens was suspended for four games by the Eagles on Nov. 5 for criticizing quarterback Donovan McNabb, fighting with team "ambassador" Hugh Douglas and other actions deemed detrimental to the team. Last Tuesday, the suspension was upheld by an arbitrator.

After the suspension ends, the Eagles are expected to deactivate Owens for the rest of the season. He is expected to be traded or released for next season.

NFL bylaws prohibit "any interference by a member club with the employer-employee relationship of another club or any attempt by a club to impermissibly induce a person to seek employment with that club or with the NFL."

The Eagles' complaint was first reported by Fox.
