Blues get Wright-Phillips
Shaun Wright-Phillips still must agree on a contract with the defending Premier League champions.

LONDON (AP) -- Chelsea acquired the rights to Manchester City midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips on Sunday, paying his old club a reported 21-million-pounds ($45 million Cdn) transfer fee.

Wright-Phillips still must agree on a contract with the defending Premier League champions.

"As a result of Shaun's request to speak to Chelsea we have conducted a series of complex negotiations with Chelsea," Manchester City spokesman Paul Tyrrell said. "The fee for Shaun's transfer has been agreed and consequently we have granted his wish to talk to the other club."

Wright-Phillips is the stepson of former Arsenal striker Ian Wright. He joined Manchester City in 1999 after being released as a trainee from Nottingham Forest.Via: Sportsnet.ca (http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/article.jsp?content=20050717_122512_4472).

I really enjoyed what SWP did in his few appearance with England, so I'm sure this is another good addition for Chelsea.

This is awful news. I hope he doesn't agree on a contract and stays with city.
Being a Wright he and his younger brother Bradley really belong at Arsenal. :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse:
If Wenger used the money he got for Vieira and put it towards Sweep then maybe the world wold be right.

EDIT - This bumps Robben doesn't it? Sir Alex would be wise to make a call to Mourinho and find out...
