Sportsnet's Mock Draft

Sportsnet.ca -- What fun would a lottery draft be without a cheezy host, beautiful assistant and rainbow backdrop? None, exactly. So Sportsnetnews is bringing you the total package in an attempt to calculate the odds and prognosticate just where draft-bait Sidney Crosby might end up when the NHL does it for real on July 21.
Tune in every night from July 15-20 to see what the ping pong balls reveal. The premise? For every playoff appearance in the last three years or No. 1 overall pick over the last four years, a team loses one ball. But each team will still be guaranteed to have one ball in the lottery.
So, hypothetically, any team can get a shot at No. 1 through sheer randomness, or the luck of the draw. Just because Buffalo has three balls, it does not mean Colorado cannot steal the top pick with only one ball. Make sense? No? Well tune in then!
"It's the Sidney Crosby draft no doubt, but I like the depth in this year's draft," Toronto Maple Leafs director of amateur scouting Barry Trapp said Wednesday from Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask. "I think there's a lot of talent out there."
The NHL and the NHL Players' Association reached a tentative agreement Wednesday and pending ratification next week, the 2005 NHL entry draft will go ahead.
Sources say the league wants to hold the actual draft July 30 in Ottawa, where it was originally scheduled to be staged June 25-26.
