Forsberg may find new home
TheFourthPeriod.com
With the likes of Milan Hejduk, Alex Tanguay, David Aebischer, Peter Forsberg and Adam Foote all in need of new contracts to remain in Colorado, the Denver Post reports the Avalanche may not be able to retain one of their big stars. Hejduk, Tanguay and Aebischer are all restricted free agents, while Foote and Forsberg are free to negotiate anywhere they please.
If it comes down to deciding whether to sign Forsberg for anything over $5 million or re- sign Foote - or bring back both Hejduk and Tanguay - the hard choice would have to be allowing Forsberg to sign elsewhere, says the post.
Meanwhile, it makes more financial sense for a team with huge cap room, such as Boston, to try and ink Forsberg to a deal.
Unless virtually everyone (including Joe Sakic and Rob Blake) tells Avs GM Pierre Lacroix they'll take anything the team believes is fair if it ensures retaining all the big names, Forsberg might have played his last game for the Avalanche.

He wants to play with his swedish friend Mats. Apparently Naslund and Forsberg want to go to Toronto in a package, 5 million combined. Alfie said he'll come too if he can weasel out of his contract with Ottawa. The only terms he'll accept with the leafs though is if they give him a life time supply of the finest shampoo out there.

Lacroix is a magician.....He wants the whole team...That includes Peter, Milan, Alex, and last but not least...Footer.....After all it's one of the Walmart heirs that owns our team.... :relief
The bottom line is that the Avs are top-heavy with veteran talent. If this core group wants to stick together, guys like Forsberg are going to have to play for less than they could fetch in other markets where there is a vacuum. Two of the biggest vacuums are in original 6 big city markets (Boston, NYR). Both those teams could likely offer Peter more than the Avs.
So do his loyalties lie with the Avs or his bank account? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I thought the whole business of the past interuption was to stop owners from opening the wallets to sign players. Or was it just a plot to get Goodenow to go away?

Oh come on Mel...The Rangers have been sucking for quite a long....long...long time.....Maybe now with no unending payroll they can get some players with heart and love of the game...Then and only then will they get what they will have worked for as a team...Then talk to me.... 8)

Forsberg's been kind of a tough nut to crack. I'm not quite sure where his loyalties lie anymore. Does he want to play in the NHL still or would he much rather go back to MODO, I don't know.
