Don Cherry anxious to return to Hockey Night In Canada says CBC
TORONTO (CP) - Grapes will return to HNIC.
Don Cherry will be back in Coach's Corner alongside partner Ron MacLean once the agreement between the National Hockey League and its players is ratified, CBC-TV reported Friday.
"Is it October yet?" Cherry has been quoted as asking. "I've been chomping at the bit, waiting for hockey's return. I've got a whole new closet of suits I need to show off."
The broadcaster says more details of the coming season of Hockey Night in Canada will be shared as soon as ratification takes place.
Well I'm chuffed as f@*$...

Well there was a mention of Tie Domi and the mispelling of a word, which is like Cherry messing up a name, so yea this was like Coach's Corner. :laughing:
I would love to see Don Cherry with laryngitis. It would save me the trouble of muting Coaches Corner.

If it wasn't for the Leafs, Cherry wouldn't be on CBC. They'd skidded him years ago.
Got nothing to do with the Leafs, got everything to do with his schtick!
Don't forget when he first went on CBC he slathered all over the Bruins and Bobby Orr each and every weekend!
It has only been since Dougie played for the Leafs that he fell in live with them.
Cherry is a fan of the game, whether you guys like to admit it or not...............

He watches, attends and supports more hockey then you and I combined, he trumpets Canadian Hockey and that's a bad thing? :confused:
I have to laugh when people say he is a joke, that all he does is incite violence in the game, yet the same people slather all over Slap Shot the movie, which was a classic movie imho but when you strip down the comic references it really did show the game of hockey in a real bad light, and made a mockery of the game itself which a lot of non-fans still think is the true definition of hockey!!!!!

Well I'm certainly one Leaf fan that thinks Cherry is nothing more then a boorish ogre!
... well, I'm glad I got that off my chest... now back to knitting my shawl.
I guess armour plated elbow pads are good, and touch icing can be an awesome thing to watch when a player gets a body part ripped off or dislocated, oh and lets say to heck with the seamless glass lets put it back so that the fans (you know the "Real" fans) can see much better!
People should be listening to the message, not the delivery!

I wouldn't credit Cherry with all of that, Rusty. He and many, many others are against those types of aspects of the game.
As far as the delivery....I'd prefer to see someone else in that time slot and get rid of Coach's Corner altogether. Maybe someone like Rick Mercer (well, maybe not now - those asinine one tonne commercials ruined any comedic credibility he had) or some other comedian. Do a 180 and have a comedian that knows nothing of the game and has a fresh perspective to it. It might lure new viewers.

Sorry Slap it was just there, I had to say it. Actually I am in favour of getting rid of Cherry and Maclean, I stopped laughing and listening to the Ron and Don show about 3 seasons or more ago.

I?m in the same boat as the love to hate him crowed. I love the entertainment value he provides in his what could be described as a circus act but at the same time I hate his bias hockey views and uneducated political rhetoric. As Rusty mention sometimes he uses his TV appearances for good and I?m sure he?s helped speed some changes to the game but that?s it.

Well I should hope he attends more hockey games than the rest of us and trumpets Canadian hockey. He has the spare time and is highly paid for doing 10 minutes of work each week, so that's the least he can do. :D
I'm not Cherry bashing here, it's just that I think Don Cherry is a parody of himself and has turned himself into a cartoon character. And because of this one shouldn't take much of anything he says seriously, really. He's turned himself into the Tasmanian Devil of the hockey world and you know what he is going to say before he says it. And MacLean has become Cherry's highly-paid puppet. I just think their act has become boring to me....sorry! And c'mon now, Cherry being a Leaf fan has everything to do with the fact that he is still on the air. Cherry was a huge Leaf fan in the 80's and grew up a Leaf fan in Kingston, so that's long before Gilmour, and he also is not stupid and knows where his bread is buttered. If Cherry was an Oiler fan, and was mainly doing and saying the same stuff while primarily featured promoting Oiler games on the CBC, he'd have been long gone years ago.
