No red lines? Why don't we all pretend to be European?
Smaller pads for goalies? I saw the interview with Dan Hinote and Peter Forsberg in which Forsberg said "the goalies were getting almost too good". Am I missing the point, but aren't they supposed to be TRYING to get better? IMFO, maybe all these super forwards should just try to get better. Maybe then they would be worth the money they think they so richly deserve. :soapbox:
Sorry,I just had to get that off my chest.
Agree on everything except the pads.
Yes, you're a goalie.. so you want every advantage you can have. Give me one good reason why pads that are safe that are streamlined aren't fair. Just one, all I ask. Other than it making goaltending more of a skill position, I don't see a single one. There's no way Boucher should be getting 6 shutouts in a row, but when he takes up the entire net just standing there it's not much of an accomplishment.
Pads weren't made to "make the save". They're made for protection.. that line has been greatly blurred.

You got me there.I guess I'm passionate about the goalies because my son is one.I would agree that they could be a little slimmer, but I hope that doesn't effect the height of the pads on the thighs. My son tried on pads to a "perfect fit",but it left a gap between his leg pads and his chest protector. As a goalie mom,I want him covered really good on his lower body, including the bigger jock and the girdle,if you know what I mean.I personally would feel better. But you are right, I have seen some goalies with WAY too much leg pads.

It's not only leg pads, but I can definetly see where you're coming from. Leg pads are actually the least of my worry. What bugs me much, much more is the gloves that are bigger than the goalies head, the jerseys that are 5 sizes too large, and the pants that are for someone 10 inches fatter. That and the shoulder "protectors" that come up to some goalies ears

It is kindof amazing to see the goalies after they take off all their stuff.Had the chance to see Patrick Roy once in person,he was really not that big!I agree about those damn jerseys. My son always ties his up so that it doesn't swallow him whole. Thank God he is only 13 and can still do that.

I have to agree that goalies padding and jerseys are too large.

Umm . . .Ms. Charm, when I was playing we had a piece of equipment called "pants" that bridged the gap between pads and body armour.
