Chris Carpenter starts it and Iggy will finish it

Edmonds will rob somebody of a homerun, and Albert Pujols will win the MVP :thumb:

How's that for bias ;)

Sounds like something a Leaf fan would say...

Okay National League, let's do this together - All we can do is tip our caps and call the American League our daddy. That's eight All Star game losses in a row. One thing that made me laugh was Kenny Rogers getting booed, then giving up the A.L. shutout bid. Welcome to the All Star game; you wanted to be here. For the Mets, Piazza was zero for two and Beltran collected one hit in three at bats. Still disappointing. Too bad Pedro didn't pitch, because Carlos would have been able to hit.

National League 5 - 7 American League.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
2B - D Lee (1); M Alou (1); L Gonzalez (1)
HR - A Jones (1)
RBI - C Lee (1); M Cabrera (1); A Jones 2 (2); L Gonzalez (1)

John Smoltz (L,0-1)

AMERICAN LEAGUE
2B - B Roberts (1); M Young (1)
HR - M Tejada (1); M Teixeira (1)
RBI - D Ortiz (1); M Tejada 2 (2); M Teixeira 2 (2); I Suzuki 2 (2)

Mark Buehrle (W,1-0)

It should now be obvious that the AL is the "real league".

It should now be obvious that the AL is the "real league". No league that doesn't make their pitchers hit can not be a "real league."

NFL Defensive lineman are not called upon to play quarterback.

Goaltenders in hockey are not allowed to skate up into the offensive zone on a rush.

It wouldn't be much fun to watch a point guard match up against Kevin Garnett.

Are these not real leagues?

These things go in cycles, I can remember when the National League had a long winning streak in the All Star game from the late 70's and 80's. Personally I like the pitchers hitting and never liked the DH. I know I will never win an arguement on this so why bother.

It's not that I prefer one over the other... and it's definitely not something I'm inclined to argue about.

I just disagree that using the DH somehow makes the American league inferior. It's just a different approach to the game. National league pitchers have an advantage that 1 of every 9 batters they face for the most part will be an easier out than the others on average.

But as far asthis talk about "real" leagues, I just don't buy it. Quarterbacks sit on the bench when their team is on defense (in the modern day). That doesn't bother anybody

That doesn't bother anybody :shrug:Mel, I guess I shouldn't be calling one league "real," meaning the other would be fake. That's out of line on my part. National League rules have just always been a preference of mine, because I think that if the pitcher is on the field for defence, then they should be hitting. There's no designated fielder. But that's a good point about quarterbacks not playing defence. :) I also like how NL managers manage their games with having to use double switches, etc., because of the pitchers in the lineup. Anyways like you said, there isn't a need to get into a debate; once again just personal preference.

What's the future hold for the All Star game?
I think it's just a matter of time until they do as the NHL tried and make it a USA versus the World game, like the Futures game is already. Bud Selig seems very keen on promoting the Major League version of baseball to the rest of the world. Step one was the home run derby, then will come the WBC and the All Star will have the international flair as well.

Where will it be?
2006 - PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
2007 - The Park on McCovey Cove in San Francisco.

There was a report yesterday that the Toronto Blue Jays will be pursuing a bid for the 2008 game (http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/news_story.asp?id=130258).
Jays may make run at '08 all-star game

DETROIT (CP) - The all-star game is headed back to the American League in 2008, and the Toronto Blue Jays are thinking about making a run at it.

The Blue Jays last hosted the all-star game on July 9, 1991, a 4-2 win for the AL. But with the renovations the club is making to its SkyDome home, president Paul Godfrey believes the time is right for a return to Toronto.

''I am seriously considering bidding for 2008, as it would fit in with the updates of the SkyDome,'' said Godfrey.

The 2006 all-star game will be hosted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and will remain in the National League for 2007 in San Francisco.

Commissioner Bud Selig said earlier Tuesday that the all-star game would head back to an AL city in 2008 and possibly 2009 as well.

Hosting the event would give Toronto's economy a nice little boost.

The Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates this all-star week's economic impact on the city to be nearly $55 million US.I just don't see that happening. I think the renovations less than 10 years ago in Los Angeles of Anaheim will give the Angels the 2008 All Star game. Kansas City is another option. If 2009 goes to another A.L. park, I expect it to be at the new Yankee Stadium. 2010 could be at the new Shea Stadium or Busch Stadium. Then 2011 rolls around and Toronto could be the host, if no new A.L. park is built.

Sorry didn't mean to imply the AL isn't a real league. I see mostly AL teams play in this neck of the woods, namely the Jays and the Mariners. I just happened to be more of an NL fan and its style of play back when I lived and breathed the Expos.

I seem to think if the jays were an NL team, the real league comment would not have been made.

Truth be told I didn't watch last nights game, and it seems a lot of other people didn't either. I heard the games ratings were down 9% or soemthing from last year. Seems like they are in steady decline over the past few years. Is that because of FOX broadcasting or other factors?

The game to me is not much of a thriller. There's too many guys the managers are trying to get in the game. It's different from NHL or NBA where everybody selected gets decent minutes to contribute.

MLB, you see a guy for a few innings and then it's somebody else. There's no flow to it. I fell asleep during the game :)
