PADANG PANJANG, INDONESIA - Officials have moved more than 25,000 people out of their homes on the slopes of Sumatra's Mount Talang after raising the alert level because the volcano continues to spew ash.

The region is now on top alert as ash rises as high as a kilometre above the volcano's crater, Indonesia's Directorate of Volcanology and Geophysics said Wednesday.
In another development Wednesday, people were told to stay away from two other volcanoes in Indonesia because of increased amounts of volcanic activity and gas emissions.
The volcanoes are Anak Krakatoa, which has been rising off the southern tip of Sumatra island since its parent volcano Krakatoa exploded with massive force in 1883, and Tangkuban Prahu in Java.
More villagers living near Mount Talang will be moved from their homes in the days ahead, increasing anxiety in a part of Indonesia that has been battered by earthquakes and daily aftershocks in the wake of the devastating Dec. 26 tsunami.
Early Tuesday, about 1,000 villagers living near the peak fled their homes to seek shelter in other villages.
Official evacuations began several hours later.
Many of those evacuated said they will return to the slopes of Mount Talang during the day to tend crops and animals while the volcano alert is in effect, however.
The 2,600-metre volcano is located 40 kilometres east of Padang, the coastal capital of West Sumatra province, and about 900 kilometres northwest of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta.
Indonesia, which is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, has 129 active volcanoes.

This place continues to have bad luck. It really makes you wonder what is happening with the world
