There have been 7 explosions in London England. At least 2 are dead in the underground and many are trapped. There were a few busses that had explosives on them as well.

I am worried sick about friends and relitives who use London transportation.

Two die in London terror blasts

Two people have been killed and scores have been injured after at least seven blasts on the Underground network and a double-decker bus in London.
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair said it was "reasonably clear" there had been a series of terrorist attacks.

He said it was "particularly barbaric" that it was timed to coincide with the G8 summit. He is returning to London.

An Islamist website has posted a statement - purportedly from al-Qaeda - claiming it was behind the attacks.

London's police chief Sir Ian Blair said there had been "many casualties" but it was too early to put a figure to those killed or injured.

More than 100 casualties and one of the dead were taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

And St Mary's Hospital said it was dealing with 26 injured people, including four with critical injuries and eight in a serious condition.

Sir Ian urged people to stay where they were and not to call emergency services unless it was a life-threatening situation.

He reassured the public that an emergency plan was in place and the situation was "steadily coming under control".

Scotland Yard said explosions have been reported at Edgware Road, King's Cross, Liverpool Street, Russell Square, Aldgate East and Moorgate.

Blasts also reported at Aldgate East, Edgware Rd, Kings Cross, Moorgate, Russell Square tube stations
10:14 Reports of blast on bus at Tavistock Square

All London Underground services have been suspended indefinitely and bus services in central London (Zone One) have been halted.

Describing the bus blast, eyewitness Belinda Seabrook said she saw an explosion rip through the bus as it approached Russell Square.

"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang, I turned round and half the double-decker bus was in the air," she said.

She said the bus was travelling from Euston to Russell Square and had been "packed" with people turned away from Tube stops.

"It was a massive explosion and there were papers and half a bus flying through the air, I think it was the number 205," she said.

"There must be a lot of people dead as all the buses were packed, they had been turning people away from the Tube stops."

One caller to BBC Five said his friend had seen "the bus ripped open like a can of sardines and bodies everywhere".

Loyita Worley, who works for a City law firm, said she was on the underground train when an explosion took place in the next carriage, while it was in a tunnel.

The 49-year-old said: "All the lights went out and the train came to an immediate halt. There was smoke everywhere and everyone was coughing and choking, but remained calm. We couldn't open the doors."

Once the doors were opened they were taken along to Liverpool Street station.

She said the carriage where an explosion happened was "black on the inside" and she saw people who appeared to have their clothes blown off.

She saw bodies lying inside the carriage.

Another passenger, who had left the Tube at Fenchurch Street Station, and walked to Aldgate East, told BBC Five Live that he saw injured people.

"As I walked through the bus station I could see people lying on the ground, black, as if they'd been covered in smoke. There were about three or four people on the floor being treated."

A spokesman for Vodafone said emergency services were being given priority access to the mobile phone network which was causing problems for other users.

So far only one group have claimed responsibility. In England it is common for more than one group to claim responsibility for bomb blasts.

Statement claiming London attacks
The BBC has located an Islamist website that has published a 200-word statement issued by an organisation saying it carried out the London bombings.

The organisation calls itself the Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda [literally the base] of Jihad Organisation in Europe.

The group not previously been heard of.

The website has previously carried statements purporting to be from al-Qaeda. It is not possible to verify such claims published on the web.

This is the full text of the statement.

In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him.

Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.

We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid.

We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.

God says: "You who believe: If ye will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly."

So far BBC is claiming 33 + Unknown on bus killed and 350 injured

More than 30 die in London blasts
A series of bomb attacks on London's transport network has killed more than 30 people and injured about 350 others.
There were three explosions on the Underground - which police said left 33 dead - and one on a double-decker bus in which an unknown number died.

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has returned to London from the G8 summit, has described the attack as "barbaric".

An Islamist website has posted a statement - purportedly from al-Qaeda - claiming it was behind the attacks.

US President George Bush told reporters at the G8 Summit in Gleneagles that "the war on terror goes on."

It's particularly barbaric that this has happened on a day when people are meeting to try to help the problems of poverty and Africa
Tony Blair

The Queen said she was "deeply shocked" and sent her sympathy to those affected.

Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick confirmed 33 people had died in the blasts on the Underground.

He said there were 21 confirmed fatalities following the blast at 0856 BST in a tunnel between King's Cross and Russell Square.

There were seven confirmed deaths after a blast at 0851 BST 100 yards into a tunnel from Liverpool Street station. The train was either a Central Line or Circle Line train.

And at 0917 BST an explosion on a train coming into Edgware Road underground station blew a hole through a wall onto another train in an adjoining platform.

Three trains were thought to be involved and there were five confirmed deaths so far, Mr Paddick said.

People were screaming and shouting and saying things like I'm dying, I'm dying, please help me.
Ana Castro
Liverpool Street Station

He said it was not yet known how many died in the bus blast at 0947 at the junction of Upper Woburn Square and Tavistock Place.

London Ambulance Service said it had treated 45 patients with serious or critical injuries including burns, amputations, chest and blast injuries and fractured limbs.

Some 300 more people were treated for minor injuries including lacerations and smoke inhalation, LAS assistant chief officer Russell Smith added.

In other developments:

The officer in charge of policing the G8 summit said many of the 1,500 Metropolitan Police officers in Scotland would be urgently redeployed to London

New Olympics minister Tessa Jowell said celebrations to mark the homecoming from Singapore of the successful London Olympic bid team have been cancelled

Pope Benedict said the blasts were "barbaric acts against humanity" in a message to the Archbishop of Westminster Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor

54 state schools were closed in Westminster

Mobile phone services across London were jammed with all major networks reporting problems as people tried to contact relatives and friends. A spokeswoman for Vodafone said the emergency services were being given priority.
Mr Paddick confirmed police were looking into whether the bus blast was the work of a suicide bomber.

But, he added: "It could as easily be an explosive device left on the bus as the work of a suicide bomber. We are not able to determine which it was yet."

London Mayor Ken Livingstone, speaking from Singapore before flying back to the UK, said Londoners would not be divided by a "cowardly attack".

He said it was an "indiscriminate" attempt at slaughter with no consideration for age or religion.

All London Underground services have been suspended indefinitely and bus services in central London (Zone One) have been halted.

There are a lot of people phoning loved ones to make sure they are ok
Amy Hinkley, London,

Early reports had suggested a power surge could be to blame for explosions on the Underground but this was later discounted.

Describing the bus blast in Tavistock Square, witness Belinda Seabrook said she saw an explosion rip through the vehicle.

"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang, I turned round and half the double-decker bus was in the air," she said.

She said the bus had been travelling from Euston to Russell Square and was "packed" with people turned away from Tube stops.

"It was a massive explosion and there were papers and half a bus flying through the air." she said.

One caller to BBC Five Live said his friend had seen "the bus ripped open like a can of sardines".

Blasts occurred:

Between Aldgate East and Liverpool Street tube stations
Between Russell Square and King's Cross tube stations
At Edgware Road tube station
On bus at Tavistock Square

There is a group called the SAS, best in the world at what they do..makes the navy seals look like cub scouts. They have a policy, and its take no prisoners. Several times, when terror groups have held hostages in London, all they have had to say is that the SAS is on the way, and they surrender like that.

My point is, I don't think Blair will use the SAS for this..he is more levelheaded. But, they are there, and these terrorists are nothing compared to what the SAS can unleash

The SAS forces are on par with US SF forces.... SEaLs are hardly "cub scouts". Either your dreaming or your making stuff up.... :coffee:

I believe that Al-Q has already claimed responsibility for the bombings. They probably think that "Olympics" is a software company.... The timing may indeed have something to do with it, but I doubt that it's the reason for the bombings if that's what you mean. This is all about Iraq and G8.

I haven't heard anyone sum it all up, as well as the London mayor Ken Livingstone

"This was not a terrorist attack against the mighty and the powerful, it was not aimed at presidents or prime ministers, it was aimed at ordinary working-class Londoners, black and white, Muslim and Christian, Hindu and Jew, young and old, indiscriminate attempt to slaughter irrespective of any considerations for age, religion, whatever. That isn't an ideology, it isn't even a perverted faith. It is just indiscriminate attempt at mass murder. "

"I know that you do fear you may fail in your long term objective: to destroy our free society. And I will show you why you will fail.

"In the days that follow, look at our airports, look at our seaports and look at our railways.

"Nothing you do, however many of us you kill will stop that life. Where freedom is strong and people can live in harmony, whatever you do, however many you kill, you will fail."

British police say London bombs were detonated just seconds apart (http://www.canada.com/news/world/story.html?id=8f86d36f-437a-4e58-8bd9-0deeaabebecf).

That makes the planning so much more important, and the execution impressive (if I can call it that). They apparently used timers, rather than manual detination.

Security scare in Birmingham, thousands evacuated
H.S. Rao

London, July 10
A ?credible threat? forced the British police to sound an alert and evacuate over 30,000 persons in the bustling Birmingham city, but the warning was lifted later as none of the suspicious packages found proved to be ?credible terrorist devices.?

The threat came as prayers were held in churches across the country for victims of Thursday?s bomb attacks in London, which is returning to normal even as the police hunts for the perpetrators of the serial blasts.

The mass evacuation was carried out last night after the police received ?substantial threats?, two days after blasts rocked London?s underground train stations and a passenger bus killing over 50 persons and injuring at least 700.

Bomb squads conducted four controlled explosions in a bus near the city centre in Birmingham to blow up four packages it found in mysterious circumstances, but later found that they were not ?credible terrorist devices?.

The police, however, justified the operation with the West Midlands Chief Constable Paul Scott Lee saying that the decision to evacuate the people from the city centre had not been taken lightly and came after a ?very specific threat?. ?There was a credible threat that was made,? he added.

He put the threat in the context of the broader global climate on terrorism and said it was unrelated to the suspicious packages which were found.

?The threat that we responded to was very specific,? he said. ?It was specific about the time and also the locations.?

He said the threat had ?gone away? as the operation was over.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke warned that the country should expect more threats similar to that seen in Birmingham as the police was yet to track down those behind the blasts.

He said the police and intelligence agencies had thwarted several attacks in the past five years.

Meanwhile, London began limping back to routine even as anxious relatives continued to scour hospitals in search of their loved ones missing since the blasts.

Special services were held in churches in memory of those perished in the blasts while people thronged areas close to the blast site in search of their dear and near ones.

Photographs of those went missing after the attack along with appeals for information about them have covered the walls, bus stops and telephone boxes close to King?s Cross station, scene of the worst attack.

A steady stream of well-wishers thronged the station with flowers and messages for the victims of the carnage.

The police, who had made no arrests so far, said it was looking for no particular individuals and that the bombs were made of high explosive, not home-made materials.

It said the bombs went off simultaneously, giving credence to doubts that it was detonated by timers rather than suicide bombers.

Below the King?s Cross station, rescue workers were still trying to retrieve bodies from the underground tunnel. ? PTI

Arrests over London bomb attacks
Arrests have been made in Yorkshire after the identity of the suspected London bus bomber led police to make raids in Leeds and Luton.
Security sources told the BBC the bus bomb suspect died in the blast but it is unclear if it was a suicide bombing.

In Leeds a controlled explosion was carried out to gain access to a house, as part of a search of six premises.

Police have exploded a car in Luton which they believe may be connected to the attacks that killed 52.

An unoccupied house in the Burley area of Leeds was one of six raided in Leeds after the attacks.

Security sources say the bomber of the No 30 bus died in Thursday's blast, BBC correspondent Danny Shaw has said.

Police in Leeds are looking for explosives and have already seized some material.

Up to 600 people have been evacuated from the area as part of the operation.

Police cleared people from homes as well as a mosque, a health centre and an old people's home.

His great sense of humour and personable nature put him centre stage with family and friends
Bomb victim Jamie Gordon's family statement

Parts of the Beeston area of Leeds has been cordoned off, as well as a street in Dewsbury near the city.

Inspector Miles Himsworth said the operation was being led by the Metropolitan Police Anti-Terrorist officers with the support of West Yorkshire Police and the Army Bomb Disposal Unit.

He said the house at which the controlled explosion took place officers were searching for explosives and other material.

He said that may include computers, and a "careful and meticulous search" would be carried out.

Luton station closed

Anti-terrorism officers launched the first raids in the Leeds area on six houses at about 0630 BST.

One evacuated resident Nathan Clark, said people were "shocked" at what was happening.

"Everyone is amazed that it is happening on their doorstep," he told BBC News.

Meanwhile in Luton the railway station has been closed and a cordon placed around an area that also covers the bus station and parts of Luton University campus.

Police said a car they believe may be connected to the London bombs has been found in the car park.

Earlier the Met commissioner Sir Ian Blair confirmed the operation "is directly connected to the outrages on Thursday".

Sir Ian said London, as well as New York, continued to be "major terrorist targets".

He said: "Another attack is likely, there's no question about that. When, who knows."

The Yorkshire searches were carried out after warrants were issued under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Unfortunately we are going to have to surrender some of civil liberties
Matthew Freedman, London, UK

BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner said the police were acting on information from searches at the scenes of the crimes in London.

Five victims have been formally identified out of 52 people confirmed killed in last Thursday's explosions on three Underground trains and a bus.

Several families have received official confirmation of the deaths of loved ones.

Queen donates

The police released the names of two further victims on Tuesday - Philip Stuart Russell, 28, of Kennington, south London, and Jamie Gordon, 30.

Mr Gordon's family described him in a statement as a "kind, caring person who always put other people first".

Two other victims were formally identified on Tuesday, but their families asked for the names not to be released immediately.

On Monday, Susan Levy, 53, from Hertfordshire, was the first victim of the bombings to be officially identified by coroners.

Meanwhile in London, Prime Minister Tony Blair has signed the official book of condolences for victims at city hall.

The Queen has made a "substantial donation" to a fund set up to help the families of people killed and injured in the attacks, it has been announced.

Buckingham Palace did not reveal how much had been pledged to the London Bombings Relief Charitable Fund set up on Friday by Mayor Ken Livingstone and the British Red Cross.

An anti-terrorist hotline for anyone who might have information for the police has been set up on 0800 789 321 .

London blasts cause chaos on Tube

Police in protective clothing were deployed at the bus site

The Tube has been plunged into chaos and several stations evacuated after minor blasts on three trains and a bus.

Met Police chief Sir Ian Blair said only three Tube lines were still suspended and it was time London started to return to normal.

The minor explosions - just two weeks after blasts killed 56 - involved detonators only, a BBC reporter said. There was only one injury.

A blast was also reported on a Number 26 bus in Bethnal Green.

There were no injuries and the bus suffered no structural damage.

Eyewitnesses heard bangs and saw abandoned rucksacks at the sites of the incidents at Warren Street, Shepherd's Bush Hammersmith and City line and Oval tube stations as well as the number 26 bus.

At Warren Street and Oval a man was seen running away from the scene.

Large areas around all four sites were cordoned off.

One person was injured at Warren Street. There were reports the injured person may have been holding a rucksack containing the detonator.

Sir Ian appealed for witnesses with mobile phone pictures of any of the incidents to send them to www.police.uk.

And he said it was "time to get London moving" again.

Prime Minister Tony Blair said: "We can't minimise incidents such as this because they obviously have been serious in the four different places as we know.

"I think all I'd like to say is this that we know why these things are done, they're done to scare people and to frighten them, to make them anxious and worried."

The BBC's Andrew Winstanley said devices had been found but appeared to have been dummies, containing no explosives.

Police said armed officers were deployed to University College Hospital after an incident. A large area was cordoned off, but the incident is now over.

There were reports a memo had been circulated to staff to look out for a 6ft 2in black or Asian man with wires sticking out of his top.

The hospital has not received any casualties or been alerted to casualties.

A man was arrested near Downing Street by armed police and led away down Whitehall.

The whole of the Northern Line has been suspended, along with the Victoria Line, the Hammersmith and City line, Piccadilly and the Bakerloo line.

Police have set up cordons round the stations

A number of other stations were closed including Great Portland Street, Westminster, Waterloo, St Paul's and Oxford Circus tube stations, as well as Waterloo tube station and King's Cross Thameslink.

Tony Blair cancelled events in the afternoon and attended a meeting of the Cobra committee along with Sir Ian. Whitehall was briefly closed down.

London Underground went to an amber alert with trains taken to the next station and evacuated.

An eyewitness at Oval station said there had been a small bang, and a man had then run off when the Tube reached the station.

A spokesman for Stagecoach said the driver of the number 26 bus travelling through Shoreditch had heard a bang on upper deck, gone upstairs and seen the windows were blown out.

The bus driver was very shaken but said to be fine.

At Shepherd's Bush Hammersmith and City line station, police told reporters that a man had threatened to blow himself up and then ran off.

Sosiane Mohellavi, 35, was travelling from Oxford Circus to Walthamstow when she was evacuated from a train at Warren Street.

"I was in the carriage and we smelt smoke - it was like something was burning. "Everyone was panicked and people were screaming. We had to pull the alarm. I am still shaking."

I saw a poll on CTV.ca after the 7/7 attacks, and it asked Canadians if they were afraid to travel to London now and the results were around 85 saying they were not afraid. Then cnn did the same thing after the bombs on the 21st and the results were around the same.

Good to see people are not being controlled by this kind of terrorism and its implications (according to these non scientific polls at least).

It's good to see peope aren't being swayed by these acts. As soon as someone says "I'm afraid to go to.....*insert recently attacked city here*" the terrorists just scored a point. Fear is what they seek, courage is what we should show.

Hey, I'm a limey..and I'd be afraid to take transit over there at the current moment

But, you have to do what you have to do. The last bombings really take it into account though

Must be terrible, not knowing if that day you will not return home

I am no more afraid to take transit over there than I was when the IRA were having their "fun."
I figure it is safer to take transit than it is to walk.
