I know everybody is skeptical and cynical these days, but I am getting more encouraged as time passes. Although it's not really front page news any more. the 2 sides are still communicating and indeed making small steps of progress in philosophical differences. :thumb:

NEW YORK -- When NHL labour talks resume, a new plan will be up for discussion that attempts to blend elements from both sides' vision of how players will be paid. Negotiations will probably resume next week, during which a new, hybrid concept -- which addresses the relationship between player costs and league revenues -- will be brought to the table, a source close to the negotiations told Associated Press on condition of anonymity yesterday.

The NHL has maintained that it prefers a link tying player costs to league revenues, while the union has rejected that idea. This new, mixed plan would appear to incorporate elements from both sides' concepts.

Next week's likely bargaining session would come at a busy time for the NHL, which has a board of governors meeting today.

The last bargaining session, held April 4 in Toronto, went better than others since the 2004-05 season was cancelled in February. NHL chief legal officer Bill Daly said there was now a good understanding of where the sides are.

Last Thursday, commissioner Gary Bettman and union executive director Bob Goodenow had dinner with some general managers and players in Michigan. Bettman and Goodenow spoke later that night, and planned to hold more official talks soon.

Great they had talks about talking. There is a deal to be had and creative minds could get it done if some just parked their egos.

I just hope I won't be told that my point is irrelevant? :clown: Sorry I couldn't help myself

The sad part is the fans know where both sides stand. :curse:
At least they are still talking.

All I can say is that little blurb I posted sounds 1,000 times better than

"no further talks are scheduled"

;)

;)I think I would rather hear absolutely nothing until they announce a deal has been signed, sealed and delivered.

We can all dream ice! :) . But realistically these sides need to talk at least 2-3 per week. Gary and Bob to you I say whats your job? Are you boys working something on the side that you can only meet once every 3-4 weeks? :coffee:
