Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets will be introduced as a part owner of the Milwaukee Admirals at a Bradley Center news conference today, sources said Thursday.
Sheets becomes the latest Brewers connection for the American Hockey League team, whose principal owner is Harris J. Turer, a Brewers investor.
Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio and team assistant general manager Gord Ash also are investors in the Admirals. Jon Greenberg, the former director of media relations for the Brewers, is the Admirals' new president and an investor.
A group of local investors assumed control of the Admirals on June 1 after purchasing the team from the estate of the late Jane Bradley Pettit. The group's ranks swelled to 12 with the addition of Sheets.
The Admirals won the Calder Cup championship during the 2003-'04 season, the first professional title in franchise history. The team, coached by Claude Noel, finished in second place in the Western Conference West Division last season.
Milwaukee was ousted in a seven-game first-round playoff series by the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.
The Milwaukee franchise is affiliated with the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League and is stocked with prospects from that team. The two clubs recently renewed their affiliation agreement through the 2006-'07 season.
