View Full Version : F-1 vs. NASCAR

What do you think is a better race - NASCAR or F-1?

And WHY?

For myself, I'm a newbie at the racing gig and still haven't figured out what the hell NASCAR stands for and what the diff. is between CART and F-1.

Somehow I figured there might be more "honest" responses if this thread was in the Trash talk section.

VVVRRROOOOOOOMMMMMM...............

National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. I've never really been into this series much. I'll watch the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard but I enjoy F1 and open wheel a lot more. I can't explain why, its just the way it is. I do enjoy the street courses but the only one in NASCAR that I can think of is Watkins Glenn. There are more, but because I don't follow it, I don;t know them.

And that has nothing to do with the fact that you are a Leaf fan? Right?

Seriously Rusty, you're a NASCAR freak....I'd like to hear the NASCAR side of things.

What do the Leafs have to do with a discussion on Racing? ;)

What do you want to hear?

Me thinks that this is the type of discussion over a few Timmy's brew!

There is a huge difference between Indy and F1, the cars only appear to be similar, the similarity between the two is only skin deep!

In Formula 1 there are only six cars racing, like in yesterday's U.S. Grand Prix.

Kind of like when the Stupid leaf last won the Cup.

Please Hatred keep it on topic. It has nothing to do with your fave subject.

If you have an honest opinion we would like to hear it.

Hey Rusty I've been giving Slappy some idea's for your upcoming weekend sleepover at Chez Slapshot (Sens PJ's, Oilers blankets, a Maple Leaf paraphernalia Bonfire...)

I am too biased too.

2003 Ferrari F2003-GA: 930 BHP @ 19000 RPM
CART cars: 10,700 RPM rev limit, 675 to 700 HP.

Qualifying times at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal 2002.
Formula One: 1:12.836
CART 1:18.959

And the sound of the cars... to me CART cars moan. Formula One cars scream. I like screamers.

F1 hands down. I would love to go a race and see it. NASCAR doesn't appeal to me, and once had to waste an evening when a family friend came over and wanted to watch a NASCAR race...cars going around and around don't do it for me.

I also like the different types of tracks there are in F1. Sure there are some differences in NASCAR, but in general, they are all oval, and just don't appeal.

and grim, screamers are the way to go....VROOOMMM!!!!

Formula One, Champ Car, Indy Racing League. Now that is all the same.

I think the appeal of N-A-S-C-A-R (please spell it out, I do) to me is that the cars they race are similar to the cars that I drive. There seems to be a connection there, watching those cars race.

With those open wheel racers, there's only one good driver (Schumacher) and he wins every race, from what I have seen. Even though I don't know about that series, I wouldn't bet against him.

Also when can you see these races? Like 6 am on a Sunday morning. There's no flippin' way I'm getting up on a weekend that early. NASCAR always has afternoon or primetime races, which is easy for viewers all over the continent to watch.

This weekend once again proved what a farce the F-1 series really is.

Schumacher this year has one 1 race, and that was with 6 drivers on Saturday. He has been in a slump, but the best team wins..is that such a bad things?

Excuse me? The world is more than just North America. F-1 is primarily a European racing league, but has the global fan-fare as it holds several races out of Europe. You expect a race in Japan to start at 8 PM ET just so you, in a not so F-1 great market can watch it, while there it starts in the morning, but in the middle of the night in Europe.

This weekend once again proved what a farce the F-1 series really is.
I'll agree with this weekend, but the F-1 series is not a farce period. They had one troublesome weekend/grand prix which could be disasterous for the US Grand Prix. However, the rest of the world will still be mainly supportive of the racing league.

Looking at the specs of the various cars...Champ, IRL and F-1 there doesn't appear to be much diff...

Check out the comparisions, here -> Edmonton Grand Prix (http://www.champcarworldseries.com/Tech/Car_Comparisons.asp)

I think (from a rookie standpoint) you racing purists are splitting hairs when it comes to open-wheeled racing. If I'm wrong please enlighten me.

Anyway, I'm off to the Grand Prix this weekend. Got my 3-day pass.

Check out the comparisions, here -> Edmonton Grand Prix (http://www.champcarworldseries.com/Tech/Car_Comparisons.asp)So those Formula One cars aren't even the fastest open-wheel machine? In fact they're the slowest open wheel car. Yet another sham exposed. I was under the impression that Formula One was the best of the best in open-wheel, so they'd have the fastest cars. Guess not. +1 for N-A-S-C-A-R.

By the way, great to see that you Albertans are heading out to the track to support the race this weekend. I know of a few people (family, friends) who are doing the same thing. Hopefully it'll be a long tradition for the City of Edmonton to host a Grand Prix event. Just for clarification, it's at City Centre Airport, right?

I drive past it every day going home from work and have watched the grandstands grow and grow. It was fun until Monday when they put up some damn white tarp on the chainlink - now I can't see dick.

On the way to Lloydminster this morning I saw two car transporters heading west to Edmonchuck from Tee-Oh.

The buzz in this city is crazy. Everyone is talking about the Grand Prix.

I got my tickets for Fathers day from the love of my life!

Here are a couple of pics from the last two days of the race.

Here is a picture of Paul Tracy, I waited in line for over an hour to get his autograph, thankfully they cut the line off right behind me!

With the Paddock access Slap has we can wonder around the pits and get rather close to the crews as they are working, especially in the lower classes where we basically could climb into the cars and get pics!

Having my first opportunity to attend a race - the Champ (CART) cars sounded like they were screaming. Looking around in the grandstands and seeing so many people wearing earplugs I can't imagine them wearing them because of the terribly loud moaning of the engines.

Speaking of NASCAR, I was just reading up on Pauls Tracy and his aspirations to join that series. Apparently he has talked with NFL Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Roger Staubauch about forming a team, called Hall Of Fame Racing.

Not a big fan of NASCAR but I might give it more of a shot if Tracy joins that series. BUT, why I decided to post this was becasue of a post on TSN's your call that made me laugh out loud, because its actually fitting for Pauls style of driving.

Tracy with fenders - a winning combination!
