With the CFL season on the horizon I figured we could start a good old pool, if anyone is game you can either PM me, or post your participation in this thread. Rules and Format will follow shortly.

Sounds good, maybe a simple Week by Week Pick the Winners style?
The Insider
6-11-05, 3:16 PM
Ok then, here are the rules:
1. Since games are played on a week to week basis on the majority of occasions, you will have up until the Wednesday deadline to submit you picks. However since Week 1 has a Wednesday game, the picks must be in by Tuesday for that week alone.
2. You must choose who will win the game and if you guess correctly you will be awarded 1 point. In the event of a tie(as rare as they may be) no points will be awarded unless you predicted a tie in which case you will be awarded 1 point plus an additional bonus point equalling 2 points. However if you guess a tie and there is a winner, no points will be awarded to you, same case if you incorrectly guess who will win.
3. Since this is going to be an official HS run pool, there will be a prize awarded to the winner. In the event of a tie, there will be a bonus question asked at the beginning of the year and the person who comes closest to the answer(whether over or under) will be awarded the winner.
4. Predictions of all players are to be either posted on the forum or PMed to myself before the deadline to gain the points, if a prediction comes in after the deadline no points will be given no matter when the game is played.
5. Please enjoy.
Now then, here is Week #1
Week One Games: (Deadline for picks - Tuesday June 21st.)
Wed June 22 - Hamilton @ Montreal
Fri. June 24 - Ottawa @ Edmonton
Sat June 25 - B.C. @ Toronto
Winnipeg @ Saskatchewan
I joined a pool last year on a football forum and sometimes found that I was more interested in the game score being what I predicted than in watching a good game. That got very frustrating at times and took away from my enjoyment of the game.
Clearly I have some sort of pool affliction madness so I think it best I just stay away from pools this year.
I have ran these type of pools before and I must say that I disagree with rule number four.4. Predictions of all players are to be either posted on the forum or PMed to myself before the deadline to gain the points, if a prediction comes in after the deadline no points will be given no matter when the game is played.I don't like this. Either make everyone post their predictions (which I prefer), or have everyone PM you. Keep it consistant. Also if someone misses the deadline, I think they should still be allowed to predict the rest of that week's games. They should of course receive an automatic loss for the games they missed. I don't think it's fair to exclude someone because they missed one week's game.
Lastly, I think a separate webpage scoreboard should be kept, with up to the date standings.

J.R. while I understand your view, in order to make the pool fair to everyone the deadline must be in place, this way everyone has their picks in on time and with a week in advance to pick, that should be plenty of time. If there is a problem with the forum and a participant cannot get online to make their picks, my E-Mail can be used as a way of sending me the week's picks.
Secondly, by opening up various methods to make picks, there will be no reason that the picks were not made on time, and I have opened up a new thread where the weekly picks will be posted for all to see, along with a leaderboard.
Now if someone goes on vacation and wishes to submit their picks in advance they are more then welcome to, although for that I would prefer they are PMed to me to make it easier to trace.
Okay, sounds good.
My first picks will be coming in later in the week.

Sat. July 16th - Calgary @ Ottawa
Sun. July 17th - Hamilton @ Saskatchewan
BTW I have decided on a tie breaker. Since this is a week to week pool, the person who has more perfect weeks will be awarded the winner. For example, if J.R. and PDO are tied for 1st at the end of the season and PDO has 6 perfect weeks and J.R. only has 4, PDO is the winner. This makes your predictions mean even more in the long run. BTW I will add a "Perfect week stat to the end of the points list, you'll see it :thumb:

Well, I'm going to gamble with an under-rated Winnipeg team. This is a winable game for them, and IMO their season starts Friday. Need to start to pull away some time, and with so many people making the same picks over and over (Edm, BC, Sask) I'd like to give myself a bit of breathing space :D
And I'm guarenteed to be tied for first at the end of this week.. how to go Eskies :thumb:

Ok guys, since we've got a nice long weekend coming up, Week #6 has five games being played, I repeat 5 games. It's time to either get back in it, or pull ahead. Here are the games:

I would also like to point out that for the first time there is a solo leader in the pool as PDO has the edge due to the Perfect Week decider. Although with 5 games on tap this week some of which that could go either way and the fact that only 2 correct predictions seperate 1st from 7th, a big week for someone could quickly adjust the rankings.
Good luck fellas :thumb:

Is McManus healthy enought to play and if not is Jones ready, if the answer is no
to both I can't see Hamilton wininng with Brady.
Edmonton looks pretty impressive until you look at the teams they've played so far.
Can Montreal finally wake up or are they in terminal decline?

Hamilton will probably get crushed due to an enormous and unwarranted self confidence brought on by that incredible winning steak they are on.
BC despite not playing are so good they'll still get a win in somehow.
Who knows what will happen, I'm going to have to think this one over then toss four coins. Gotta be as good a method as any.

I am decided on 3 of the 4 games. For now, it's:
Montreal
Saskatchewan
Toronto
I am still on the fence on the last one, so give me some time to think :thumb:
BTW Deadline on Thursday this week.

Blame the schedule makers for that and not me :thumb:
Besides, based on how high I've been up in the standings all season, like I really need the extra day :stir:
All four games will end in draws  According to rule number two, you are allowed to predict that. 2. You must choose who will win the game and if you guess correctly you will be awarded 1 point. In the event of a tie(as rare as they may be) no points will be awarded unless you predicted a tie in which case you will be awarded 1 point plus an additional bonus point equalling 2 points. However if you guess a tie and there is a winner, no points will be awarded to you, same case if you incorrectly guess who will win.If you were correct on all four fronts that would be a nice eight points to pad your already two point lead.
Do it, Dave. :D

Hmmm..... an eight point bonus eh, maybe you're trying to tempt me here JR :conspire:

That last emoticon has nothing to do with anything but I just wanted to use it

I hate to do it... especially with 2 games to make up, but I've gotta go with the majority:
BC
Edmonton
Toronto
Saskatchewan
Argos/Ticats
How can both teams be so incredibly different from the last time they played?
Incredible...must be drugs involved.
