Corel out? Senators arena seems likely to hook up with bank
By BRUCE GARRIOCH -- Ottawa Sun
The Corel Centre will have a new name by the time the Senators return to action. Yep, as strange as it may seem for local fans who've gotten used to the name, the Corel Centre may not be the Corel Centre for much longer.
While the final details have to be completed and the papers have to be signed, indications are the Scotia Bank is ready to take over the naming rights to the building. A deal still has to be worked with officials at Corel Corp. to officially remove the name, but it seems the company wants to back away from the arena.
What the name will be hasn't been decided, however, Scotia Place, the Scotia Arena and Scotia Centre are all possibilities. It's not known when a formal announcement will be made, but if Corel backs away, it will end a 10-year run for the company on the outside of the building. The original agreement called for Corel to have its name on the building for 20 years.
The deal to buy the name on the Ottawa Palladium in 1996 was worth $26 million Cdn. It's believed both the Senators, under different ownership, and Corel, under different management, want to go in a new direction.
And Scotia could be a perfect fit, especially if the Senators can exceed the revenue they would have gotten from Corel for the next 10 years. Club officials could not be reached for comment.
A key to this, of course, is a stoppage to the current NHL lockout and a return to the ice. The NHL and NHLPA met again earlier this week, with a new proposal presented.

Will leaf fans be allowed in?
Will leaf fans be allowed in?
Of course. We don't beat the $#!+ out of isolated rival fans. This is not the Wachovia Center. :]

I thought we'd have to give a non parrishable food item to get in or something. The leaf fans certainly aren't isolated when they're in the Corel center, sometimes they're the majority!

So, then, why don't they move the rink to Nova Scotia
It can't be the Scotia Centre unless its in Nova Scotia. ;)
Maybe with a new name, the sens could possibly beat the leafs in the playoffs. ;) ;)

Well walking up the steps induces a bit of the spins / butterflies, it's very steep. Hence, the "The Cylinder of Nausea"...

Since Ottawa is in a state of changing names, with respect to the obsession that the sen's fans here seem to have with evidence from their posts, let change this forum name from the "Ottawa Senators" forum to the "Scat Lovers" forum. It's fitting.
