View Full Version : No Rookies

Each year, the NHL publishes an Official Guide and record book.

One interesting list published is the All-Time Top 50 Point-Scoring Rookies. Among the names gracing the list are Teemu selanne (132 points in 1992-93, NHL record) to Jason Arnott (68 points in 1993-94)

Here's the shock. There are no leafs on the list whatsoever! Nope, none in the top 50 ever! Does the leaf hate rookies?

I checked to see what the record was for points by a leaf rookie. It's held by leaf hero Peter Ihancak in 1982-83. He had 66 points. Sorry Pete, you missed the cut.

Ohh, and the last leaf rookie to win rookie-of-the-year was Brit Selby in 1966.

What a pitiable organization.

The leaf gets away with what it wants to. If mediocrity keeps bringing in the millions, let the fans suffer. If the fans don't care enough, then they're not very good fans, are they?

When you look at this stat and re-examine the Stupid leaf's record since 1967, the stats like the one above indicate poor and inept management.

But leaf fans buy it. Like Bob McKown mentioned on the air recently, leaf fans are suckers. Too bad.

Come on we all know that Coliacovo is a shoe-in for the Norris & Calder when he joins the NHL...just ask Johny he'll tell you!

What's wrong with the guy having a positive outlook?

I sure as hell do NOT have one for the Rangers. It's gonna take more than a few wins to dull my bitterness. If not, I'd like Sather to be uncerimoniously booted out of town... much like he did to Brian Leetch. :curse:

Absolutely nothing. Did I say Emery is the next Brodeur yet?

Quiet you. It is possible, thats all I ever said. Except for the sig at HF, which was obviously a joke aimed towards Man U. Just thought I'd mention that for the people who are a little slower than others.

If Coli can get over his injury troubles, a Norris isn't totally out of his reach. Now, it would be maybe a little above his potential at this point, but it is possible.

Bertuzzi does not have the potential to be a lady byng winner, if he did aim for that Trophy, he'd find himself in the minors pretty quick. I think you know that. You could have come up with something more realistic then that.

Was Jason Arnott last on the list, LH with 68 points? If so, that's a very tough list to crack. You'll need a high draft position, top 10 at least, to get a rookie of such talent. I know Yashin got 80 in his rookie season, but he was drafted 2nd overall and I doubt any of the other Sens made the list. It's hard to break that many points in today's NHL in your first season in the league - I seriosly doubt Crosby or Ovechkin will do it. Kovalchuk, Heatley, Spezza, and Nash also fell short and they shold all be high-impact, quite likely "elite" guys at the end of the day. In order for Toronto to attain such a player they'd need to:

- Finish poorly in the standings, drawing your critism for poor on ice product.

- Win a draft lottery when all teams get an equal shot, like what may occur this year, but then you'd claim it was a tainted achievement.

- Trade for the pick. But rest assured they'd need to overpay, and you'd be al over Toronto for that.

This is a lose-lose situation for Toronto and that's exactly why you picked it.

As for Colaiacovo winning the Norris, I seriously doubt it. He has great offensive potential. Having said that, he's never gotten 15+ goals dating all the way back to junior. I don't think he's even reached 30 points once at the pro level and aside from his very impressive final year of Junior, scoring at a PPG clip and being among the leading scorer at the WJC, he hasn't even been puting up that many points. And it should be worth noting that PPG season of his was only 35 games long. I've no doubt he could've easily posted some great figures, but I doubt he's maintain a PPG pace. Which brings me to another thing, he's injury prone. Add an only adequate, if not slightly below par defensive game/phsyical game and the odds are heavily stacked against him. He's not even a sure bet to be a #1 defenseman at this point, so Norris predictions should be held off for now at least.

It was sarcasm on my part John, this is trash talk, ;). And for the record Stan Makita once went for a being amongst the League leaders in PIM, to winning the Lady Byng.

For the record, I am not so delusional that I feel Bertuzzi merits HHOF induction. I rarely wear my Canuck goggles anymore.
