I'm an optimist.

I'm predicting a deal to be done by July 15th and an on time start to next season.

What do you think?

I think they will settle. I think that the players are growing a little impatient and want a deal done. The deal must be done this summer or the NHL will slow slip away.

I think a deal is clearly imminent (is that the word for coming soon?)

They are currently hashing out the revenue definition which SHOULD have been done last summer. They have agreed supposedly in principle to a floating cap system.

Training camp will definitely open on schedule for the 05/06 season... you heard it here first :nod:

I think a deal will be done sometime in July or August.

As they have said from the latest meetings, there has been progress but the process is coming along slowly since they are weighing in all of the options. Depends on how fast they work through most of the "minor" issues, like qualifying offers and such, since it seems from reports that they know the range that the ceiling and floor would be for the salary cap.

Its about time that both sides (especially the players), try to work on this deal for the good of the game... the fact that they will now meet every week until a deal is done is promising.

Dave's estimation of July 15th seems right for me. All signs are pointing to good things.

Lets hope they get it done, and get it done now..so we can have hockey fast..since I am on serious withdrawl :nod:

I have to agree here. If the NHL isn'y baack by the start of the season then their popularity will certainly slip farther than it already has.

What about having a settlement date pool? And by settlement... I mean the date when Bob and Gary hold hands on TV, smile nervously like they are undergoing prostate examinations, and announce they have reached a deal. I'll take July 8th, 4 p.m. ... 2005. The Prize... select a new & exciting identity and avatar for Administrator Matt for one week?
