Uggh, Boston's bats were relentless today right from the second pitch of the game, with 27 hits (one shy of the franchise record).

What a blow out. Pavano and everybody who relieved him got absolutely shelled. Great game for Boston. Many top players on both teams were benched by the 6th inning... Yanks conceding defeat.

I still think the Yanks can take 2 out of 3 tomorrow night when Mike Mussina (strong and undefeated in May) squares off against the struggling David Wells. Hopefully the Yankee bats will return some of the pain dished out today by the bosox.

I read once, I think it was a Bill James essay, that in baseball with a 162 game season, a team is going to win 41, loose 41 and that the other 80 games are up for grabs, the good teams win the majority of these 80. Everyone looses a laugher now and again.

Didn't the Yankees come out and kick the crap out of a team after their last embarrasing loss? Or am I thinking of somebody else?

I thought they did it to the D-Rays last year. But the memory is foggy.

About the 17-1 game, it's good my least favorite team lost by that much, too bad it was too my 2nd least favorite team.

The Yankees' weakness continues to be their pitching. Starting, bullpen, whatever, they just don't have it. And when the bats go cold, they don't have a chance. Boston has been slumping recently, so this may be the turn around they needed.

It was a fun game to watch today. I enjoyed it. When it starts to get out of control, you want to see more. The 16 run spread is Boston's biggest win in New York ever. This group of Yankees could very well be the biggest under achievers ever in sports. Just glad it's not my US $200 million that's been wasted.

Easy there big fella, they had won 16 of their last 18 up till today.

There's a very good chance they'll still take 2 of 3 on the series.

Like KB said - every team in baseball takes a licking now and then. It's normal.

Mussina vs. Wells tomorrow night should erase today.

Not to take away from the bosox. They were relentless today. But understand Pavano got wacked.... Nobody of quality came from the bull pen because of the blowout. (Gordon, Sturtze, Rivera all stayed seated).

I understand Posada needs his rest... but Flaherty is a dead spot in the line-up. I am confident the Yanks will come out tomorrow with all the big guns ready and win the series. :pimp:

Bah! As much as I hate the Yanks, losing 17-1 or 1-0 is just the same in the standings. A loss is a loss. It only takes away from your bullpen for a couple of days since they probably had to use everything but the kitchen sink in that game.

Still, GO SOX! :thumb:

No they pretty much let the lower end bullpen guys wrap up that fiasco. Stanton relieved Pavano. Then Quantrill came in and got absolutely drilled for like 3 homers including a grand slam. Buddy Groom pitched out the remainder of the nightmare.

So the Yanks top bullpen 3 guys, Rivera, Gordon and Sturtze got a day of rest.

In addition, Jeter, Matsui, Arod and Sheffield all got an early dismissal in the 6th inning. Posada had the day off anyway.

So all of the above mentioned will be raring to go tonight. Hopefully Mussina brings it. :pimp:

Na, na, na, na...Na, na, na, na.

Tonight the New York Yankees lost their fifth game in a row in a losing effort to the Kansas City Royals. Yes, the Single-A quality Kansas City Royals finished off the three game series sweep tonight with a 5-2 win, over the Bronx Bombers (or lack thereof).

A few game notes:Kansas City, which has the worst record and second-lowest payroll in the major leagues, finished its first three-game sweep of the Yankees at home in 15 years.

With Buddy Bell improving to 3-0 as their manager, the Royals earned their first sweep of anybody in 78 series. It was the longest drought in the majors since the Phillies went 79 series without a sweep from 1996-97.

The Royals, whose opening-day payroll of less than $40 million was dwarfed by the nearly $206 million of the Yankees, got key contributions from several rookies and recycled veterans in beating New York 5-3, 3-1 and 5-2 in what will almost surely be one of the most improbable sweeps of the season.

The Yankees, who won 16 of 18 last month and seemingly recovered from a halting start, got swept by the team with the worst record in the majors for the third time in their storied history. It's their first five-game losing streak since May 2003. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250602107

Oh, by the way, the Mets and Red Sox both won their games tonight.

I figured I'd be hearing it today. :(

Hard to figure this bunch. They start off with a miserable last place 11 - 19 record.

then they go on a 16 - 2 tear.

Now they are on an embarassing 0 - 5 skid including 3 straight to the worst team in baseball.

I hope they can right the ship and get rolling the way they should be.

The boss is probably ready to explode.

Credit where credit is due JR. The Yanks lost today mainly because of horrible pitching from Brown. I think he hit 3 batters including one with the bases loaded.

Granted he didn't get much run support (3) and A-rod came to the plate as the go-ahead run with 2 men on. But you can hardly blame A-rod for the Yankee woes.

Nobody's going to feel sorry for them... they need to climb out of this mentally. They need a big game with all the bats going. IIRC That's what started them on their 16-2 run.

Hopefully the boss doesn't do anything stupid. One guy I was watching the game with thinks Torre will be fired this season... I think that's completely absurd.

I could never figure out why Kevin Brown has commanded the money he has gotten in the past few years. I swear he has gotten by on reputaion and the vague memories of a couple of good seasons during the Clinton administration.
