So with Foppa re-signing, the trade to bring back Foote, Sakic back all this place needs is for a4l to re-emerge from the haunts of cyberspace

I dont get it

Why bring them back, and have Theodore as your starter?

Your not going anywhere

Should have made a deal for Huet ;)

I wouldn't be surpised to see Colorado in and Vanouver out come playoff time though. With all the additions in the west a Cooke for Pettinger deal isn't exactly what the 'Nucks needed. I think Phoenix weakened themselves in the short term with their deal with the Rangers so they may fall back a bit, but Nashville isn't going anywhere. Right now I think it will come down to Vancouver or Nashville for the 8th spot with Colorado maybe climbing as high as 6th or even winning the NW. Even if Forsberg only plays the PP and some limited 4th line duties, he will add afew more goals. Plus the additions of Salei and Foote solidify the backend. Not to mention they are still in contention after going without Sakic, Smyth and Stastny for several weeks. Not my pick to come out of the West, but I like what I see. Who knows maybe Budaj or Theodore will be this year's Roloson and take them on a run into the conference finals. You just never know.

These deals samck of a GM trying to drum up some PR to keep the fans interested while the team slides the wrong way in the standings.

Nothing but a bunch of used up old farts trying to recapture past glory.

Well they haven't been selling out and they currently sit 9th, and Sakic is not getting younger,so a PR move sums it up for me.

PR moves? What drugs are you guys on? Foote has proven himself to still be a solid D-man this year, who can play against the best on the other team. Who else was available with more experience and grit? Hell right now Foote is a better D-man than Blake, who is the only other D-man who has a similar pedigree.
Salei is an upgrade from Skrastins, and has the experience of being to the Cup Finals with Anaheim.
Only thing that could be considered PR is Forsberg. Although I find it funny how for someone who is nothing more than a PR move, that there was a few other teams who were drooling over the idea of adding him to their lineup.

Still the biggest thing for this team is the fact that Smyth, Stastny and Sakic are all back from lengthy injuries. The only reason this team was sliding was because those guys were out. Infact, the slide didn't really start until after Stastny, who was the last of the three to get hurt, went out.
Sakic out since Dec 1. Smyth had a neck injury Dec 19, came back Dec 27 and broke his ankle Jan 1. Stastny was out since Jan 17 with appendicitis then a groin injury.
Colorado was 25-18-3 before Stastny went down. They went 5-7-3 without him.

The players may be enjoying some success, but does anyone think that this strengthens the Av's beyond this season? Seriously would you trust your team's goal tending to Jose Theodre? The Av's may have a surge into a Western Confernce playoff spot but I don't think they catch lightening in a bottle and win the Cup this year. They'll sell tickets in Denver that is about it.

I guess you haven't been paying attention to how many empty seats there are in the Pepsi Centre (or whatever they're calling it this year) these days.

So the signings are all about selling tickets and nothing to do with winning?

If you win the tickets will sell.

It looks like the injury bug has taken up residence in Denver. Smyth and Svatos hurt the other night. Injuries are the one thing that can level the playing field no matter how stacked one particular team is.

Well, let's see. As of Friday, they had sold 7,000 new tickets for Avs games for the rest of the year, so you tell me...

Funny how that coincides with a 4 game winning streak and a spot in the playoffs.

They made the trades to try and win. Selling less than a thousand tickets per remaining home game is a pretty poor PR performance when you consider the money they put out to sign Forsberg and trade for Foote. With a combined cost of over $2M to the club they would need to be charging $285 per extra ticket they have sold so far to just break even. When you breakdown the dollars and cents it makes no sense to do what they did as a simple PR move to sell more regular season tickets, with no thought towards the playoffs. They made the moves to win and try and get into the playoffs.

Foote has been out with a hip injury aswell.

I would really like to see them line up against Detroit in the first round. Not only a renewal of a good rivalry, but I think the Wings maybe a team the AVs can beat.
