The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club announced today that free agent quarterback Ricky Ray, who helped the Esks to their 2003 Grey Cup victory has signed a multi-year contract.
Ray returns to Edmonton after spending the 2004 season with the NFL?s New York Jets. The former Sacramento State star joined the Esks in 2002 as an unheralded rookie with just one season of Arena football to his credit. When starter Jason Maas was injured in Week #4 of the ?02 campaign, Ray made the most of his opportunity and eventually led the club to its first Grey Cup championship since 1993.
Eskimo Head Coach Danny Macioica says ?To say I?m thrilled to have Ricky back would be an understatement. He?s young, intelligent and poised under pressure.?
In two CFL seasons, Ray completed 575 of 874 passes for 7,631 yards, 59 TDs, 22 INTs and posted a passer rating of 108.1.
?I am excited to be back in Edmonton. I?ve missed the city and the fans and I know I?ve come back to a great team.? said Ray
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ESKS!!!!
