I'm trying to pinpoint the sharks scoring woes. Its proving difficult.

They are playing the same system as last season. Most of the same players.
How did the PP get so bad? We had a league best Power play last season.

Somehow, we now have the best PK though:)

Marleau, Cheechoo and Michalek are not producing at expected rates. in fact, Thornton is outscoring the rest of the team by almost triple..........

I think you pinpointed the reason Joe, its because Michalek, Marleau, and Cheechoo haven't been scoring as they are expected.

When Cheechoo and Marleau don't score San Jose really depends on Thornton for points. Especially Marleau, when you play him as a number two center behind Thornton, you're expecting him to provide secondary scoring meaning he doesn't score a goal when Thornton gets an assist.

Lately seeings guys like Bernier, Pavelski, and Michalek getting on the score sheet shows signs of improvement. They're driving harder to the net and getting rewarded for it.

As for the powerplay, I think the second unit has dropped off. You still see Thornton notching the powerplay goal, but not to many others.

I think the Sharks could really use another scoring threat from the point. Ehrhoff and Carle can help put up points, but a guy like Spacek or Bieksa quarterbacking the point would probably help one or both units.

I think the problem overall is really Marleau, he needs to get hot and get a nice point streak going without playing with Joe Thornton to really get this team's scoring up.

I remember the Sharks scored less with Nabokov in goal than with Toskala last season. Its a stupid reason, but none the less its a coincidence.

To boost their scoring they must have teamwork. Passing the puck is good option. And also their forwards must try to score more during games.

Another problem is the lack of Offensive Defensemen. Carle and Ehrhoff are supposed to be our guys, and Ozolish has been the best since his mini sign on. His best isn't exactly golden.

None of them are proficient at breakout passes or skating the puck up ice.

Some of them are just squeezing their sticks too tightly. They need to keep it simple. Get a shot on net and ya know, maybe get some bounces. Pucks will start going in if they keep doing the little things. Fact is their not getting the job done and they need to start getting it done. Maybe we just need to get on the road.

They have no problems on the road:)

Michalek has picked up his scoring at least. Now we need Marleau and Cheechoo to get it going.

Other than play the Canucks more often, perhaps go to the front of the net?

I was getting so pissed last night during the leafs game. Nobody was going to the net at all for the first 2 Periods, and when in our own zone, all 5 were just using a passive box like they do on PK instead of pressuring the puck carrier.........

They managed to pull out a win with a strong third period, but if it wasn't the leafs.......
