View Full Version : So how much will Simon get?

Last night in the Islander vs Pens game, Chris Simon stepped on the ankle of Jarko Ruutu. From the video: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=IzUPO3fadkc
it certainly looks deliberate to me.
Given Simon's history, how much time off will he get?

I can see this suspension going for two months at least given the amount of damage a skate can do and the history Simon has with NHL suspensions. He's one of the worst repeat offenders, and this kind of behavior seems almost annual for him.
Send him packing back to where he came from, maybe him and Odjyk (sp?) can tell war stories.

Yeah, nothing like a little racism to add to the ugliness.
7th suspension, that has to be it. Kudos to the Isles for trying to be supportive and get the guy help, but I can't see how the NHL can't hand Simon a lifetime ban. Culture of the game or not, that's assault with a deadly weapon as far as I'm concerned.
He should be done for good in the NHL.
Last year Islander fans were trying to blame Ryan Hollweg for Simon's face slash - as if Simon had no choice.
But here we are again, and there is no case to blame the victim this time.
Simon doesn't belong in the league if he cannot stop himself from attempting serious bodily injury on other players. Do it once or even a few times then maybe get another chance but this guy has used up all his out-of-jail-free cards.

Have to totally agree. Repeat offenders for attempt to injure should be gone

Assault with a deadly weapon Gordo?
I'm no fan of Simon, but I don't think that this incident is nearly as bad as the stick swinging incident with Ryan Hollweg
A skate blade to the skate boot probably doesn't do much if any damage. Maybe if he was trying to step on Ruutu's hand or neck there's more of a case of assault.
If you stab a knife in my foot, its a felony assault for sure, but it is no attempt at murder.
Simon's a thug for sure, but the NHL doesn't have the guts to ban him for life, nor should they.
I'd say the maximum suspension should be one year to date, and then watch him float out of the league as no one in the league will attempt to sign him. That is until Brian Burke's team starts to sink in the standings.

I'm guessing about 30 games.
