Do you think Carey Price will stay up with the big club for long. Hope we get to see him again soon if he stays. He looked good against the Pens.

He's the real deal. I wouldn't be surprised to see him take over for the number one spot after Christmas. Huet is having an unbelievable start to the season though. Great to see.

I agree with you. It will be a difficult to make a decision with Huet playing well. Will all of the other teams platooning goaltenders I wouldn't be suprised to see them both play all year. Either way, I think we are set between the pipes.

I think the Canadiens really need to play Price, because playing goal at the NHL level is different from any other league. This is a team that has a chance to make the playoffs, so they can't risk that spot for his development, but if he can play consistent good hockey, I think he deserves more minutes that a veterean like Huet who may be out the door soon.

Guess they'll have to play Price now they just traded Huet for nothing but a pick.

Not like the Habs have not gone far with young goalies in the past, Dryden, Roy..

Of course he could also be Steve Penney, but I doubt it. Price has won a WJHC and done well in the AHL. As my freind Asterix from other boards says,"in Bob we trust".

Hopefully Price will be able to continue doing what he's done against the Sabres and the Devils. Let's not forget Halak's performance last year when Huet was injured either, the kid was phenomenal..

You know, there are three things I admire the Montreal Canadiens as an organization for.

One is their standard of excellence. That has been forgotten somehow over the last decade, but with Gainey and Carbo back running things, it is front and centre again.

Two is the unerring concept that no one player is bigger than the team. Once a player loses sight of this part of their philosophy, he's traded away no matter who he is.

And three, their willingness to play young players. They believe that if you're good enough to be drafted by their organization at 18, you can play and make a difference at 19 or 20. It isn't the case with every player, but they don't think that every single draft pick has to spend 3 to 5 years in the minors before they are NHL ready.

It's not like Huet was playing lights out for them. If they were going to win or lose with mediocre goaltending, then they may as well be winning or losing with their most skilled goaltender, even if he is only 20.

IMO, this was a smart move by Gainey. I'm sure Habs fans would have liked a better return for Huet, but it wasn't like the market for goaltenders was screaming hot this year. The Coyotes addressed their immediate concerns with Bryzgalov, the Lightning got their man in Smith, and Gainey wasn't about to trade Huet to the Senators or Bruins.

All things considered, he did well. He picked up what could be a low pick in the second round of a deep draft. The Habs are a young team that have a relatively large window of opportunity to win in the salary cap era. Standing pat at this deadline doesn't hurt the Habs in the least.

I liked the Huet deal. THe Habs will now get to pick one of the top 50 18yr olds in the world in exchange for a player they wouldn't have signed anyway.

OMG, I can't believe they didn't start Carey in the last game vs philly. What's up with that??? Now his confidence might be shattered.

Price hasn't looked very good in the Philly series period. He was shaky after Boston started scoring some goals and winning games in the last series too.

I think it is good Price is getting a taste of the playoffs, but Montreal can't go up against any opponent counting on their goaltender to be the difference.
