Was Alfie's slapper at Niedermayer intentional?

Or does he have really really bad aim?

You know the funny thing is
Pronger blatantly elbows a player in the face Domi style and most likely has taken him out of the cup finals. The media somewhat defends him and the story of this two time offender of blows to the head within 5 game will be gone tomorrow yet this brain fart by Alfredson will most likely live on with our media and fickle Canadian hockey fans just because it’s Alfredson.

Funny how there was no post on how McAmmond gets his dream of playing in the playoffs ripped away from him from one of the dirtiest players in the league yet this will live on in infamy

well elbows are a little more common in the course of normal play than winding up and intentionally hitting a guy with the puck... so the 2 are not interchangable IMHO. Also Pronger sat a game and Alfie will not - so nobody's trying to make it out to be like what Pronger did.

Who knows what Alfie was thinking. Yeah of course he did it purposely - does anyone really think he didn't?

I don't really understand what you're trying to say in the first paragraph. Are you trying to say Pronger sticking his elbow out in McAmmonds face while skating opposite directions is more acceptable? Are you saying his SECOND 1 game suspension in 5 games was a suitable punishment?
As for Alfredson yeah the dumb ass did it on purpose, what he was aiming for would be anybodies guess and only he knows so it’s un-debatable but yes. His actions tainted the remainder of the game IMO

What I meant was that the reason people will talk more about what alfredsson did is because shooting the puck at a guy is more unusal and noteworthy than an elbow (i did not say as bad or worse). Not because it's Alfredsson who did it.

Pronger definitely should have gotten more than one game for his 2nd offense. I think that was BS. Domi got 8 games for his elbow on Neidermayer years ago during the playoffs IIRC. It was more vicious that Pronger's but it really shouldn't matter... especially since this was Pronger's 2nd suspension of the playoffs.

Yes he meant it.

I like the play too. I've seen it happen a few times and once was actually from Niedermayer back with the Devils. I laughed. Just like I did last night.

Intentional obviously, broke the code on that one. While Pronger is no saint either, I'll take an elbow before getting a puck shot at me.

Blocking shots is a huge part of the game. There shouldn't be a dman in the league who'd rtake an elbow to the head causing concussion like symptoms before taking a puck to the body

I'll be honest and just say that I really do not believe that either incident had any effect on the outcome of the series. I think that the Alfredsson incident only helped fire up Anaheim for period 3 of game four, but that didn't decide the series. The inability to get production from Spezza and Heatley along with the major struggles of Wade Redden on defence decided this one. Also take into account that 3 of Anaheim's wins in this series came in a 1 goal decision with the game winner getting scored in the 3rd period and it is obvious that Anaheim either wanted it more or Ottawa just didn't have what it took to rise to the next level and win those tight games. I think that the Alfreddson incident will only be talked about in the future based on how bizarre it was and the Pronger elbow will probably be discussed in some circles, but it isn't the 1st and it isn't the last time someone will get suspended by a cheap shot in the playoffs so think it'll be more likely to be forgotten.

Of course he meant to do it! I just wish Alfie would have kept the shot low at Neidermayers feet.Just like pitchers in baseball when they throw at batters you just wish they throw low and not at someones head.I just hope people think of the great playoffs Alfie had and not this unfortunate moment. As for Pronger it should be made mandatory that everytime he touches the puck that the fans should chant "Chrissy"!
