To see just how much buzz the NHL Cup Finals creates, I'm going to post the U.S. and Canadian ratings for each game.

Game #1:

Game 1's rating was a 0.72 and was watched by 523,000 in the U.S. with 95,000 of those from L.A., this is according to http://www.boston.com/ae/tv/articles/2007/05/30/stanley_cup_finals_draw_low_ratings/

And according to http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/2007/05/29/4218782-cp.html Canadian ratings averaged 2,608,000 on CBC.

Putting that into percentages

U.S. -> 0.726% based on 523,000(viewers)/72 million(homes reached).
Canada -> 7.90% based on 2.6 million(viewers)/33 million(total population).

We'll see how game 2 does probably by Tommorow, and then how the NHL does when it moves to NBC for the remainder of the series, but right now it's looking very messy for U.S. numbers.

Somehow I don't think they will improve on NBC. It is 31 degrees here today,and unless you have some emoitional stake in who is playing I don't see a lot of casual viewers sitting down to watch a Hockey game in June.

To be honest, I understand the feeling. I'm having a hard time getting excited about this series at all. The Niedermayer brothers winning a Cup together is about the only thing that has me really interested in this series (no offense to the Sens fans or Canadian fans pulling for them). Ever since the Devils got eliminated, I've pretty much cared less about the playoffs...

It helps if there is money involved.

I think the biggest story here about game 2 was that snoop dogg was at the game wearing a big fuzzy #1 glove, and a phony George Parros mustache.

As for me.... I do love playoff hockey - but my interest definitely decreases once my team is out of it.

Too much to do around the house and at work.

There is life outside of hockey.....and I have been living it for the last couple of years.

Well, the verdict is in on how the NHL would do on NBC, Saturday night in prime time:

Any thoughts???

I am not surprised. It confirms that Hockey is a regional Sport in the US. It also makes me think the season is too long. By June temperatures are in the 30's, cottages are open, golf courses are full. Years ago the Cup was awarded by the May Long Weekend.

Furhter on this subject it seems that the NBA is suffering its worst Finals ratings in a long time. Could it be it is June, people have more choices and the Spurs are the Devils of the NBA? :shrug:

There again the ratings for the baseball playoffs/Wprld Series have een in decline for several years as well. Only the NFL has bucked the trend.

Wow, I'm just speechless. The thought that went into that insult (or compliment, I still can't tell which) is simply breath taking. I'm just in awe of the incredible knowledge and maturity you bring here.

Although to be honest, your stupidity at least gives this place a little bit of life...
