Your thoughts on Sather?

Well for starters he plain out stunk durring the pre-cap spend what ever you wanted.

But for now the job he has done keeping our kids for the most part playing for the pack and in the juniors.

He also made some key moves for role players such as avery for ward, cliche and a russian thats prob never coming to the NHL.

And some of the kids that are getting there shot now seem to be good additions.

callahan, giradi, lifiton, dubinsky.

And i like our last 2 #1 picks staal and sanguantti.

seems like sathers best work is beter with the low budget. i have no quarrells about it.

It's hard to argue with the results the Rangers are getting right now. It looks like (knock on wood) that they will battle their way into a 6-8 seed for a playoff run.

And the kids coming up from the pack have stepped right in at a crucial time of year. The future certainly looks bright on defense with the 2 young guys mentioned currently playing in juniors. Also a lot of people are high on Sauer but I admitedly don't know much about him.

I hated getting Avery originally because I just thought he had a big mouth... but I honestly can't remember a late season acquisition having the tremendous impact that Avery has had on this team. I wouldn't believe it if I haven't seen it.

Right now Sather looks pretty good. However I think GM's tend to get too much credit for success and too much blame for failure. At any rate I am not complaining. I feel good about this season and I feel good about the future.

I am wondering if having to work with in a budget may have freed Sather to make hockey decisions instead of having to make a splash with big "names" for big $$ in the New York media market? that and his scouting department and good drafting positions of the pre lockout years are paying off.

The drafting has been solid of late. Laugh if you want but Don Maloney has a big part of this also and we know he has a good eye for defensmen from his tenure drafting a few good ones on the islanders who eventually got traded. and im sure he gives sather his final input on those descisions.

I Had mixed feelings about avery but i knew he was the kind of player we needed and the kind of player you hate when he is not on your team but also the kind of player you like to have when he is. the guy is a charachter for sure but he brings a solid game play and agitator game to his team. something the rangers were seriously lacking and seems to have worked out well.
