Brodeur
Luongo
Kiprusoff
Turco
Vokoun
Last 10 starts
Backstrom 9-1-0 (1.60 GAA)
Nabakov 6-1-3 (1.60 GAA)
Lundqvist 7-1-2 (1.30 GAA)
Arguably the 3 hottest goalies in the league right now.
By contrast Kipper is 6-3-1 with a 2.90 GAA over the past 10.
To build a team around I would take him but right at this moment there's other guys playing better.

These picks would be the same as mine and if I could take a 6th it would be Hasek.
Cheers

And yet DiPietro only has 2 less wins, a slightly worse GAA, a better save percentage, and as many shutouts as Lundqvist, while facing almost 160 more shots in 2 less games than Lundqvist...
1- Luongo (has now surpassed Brodeur IMO)
2- Brodeur (still solid, great puck handling)
3- Kiprusoff (has proven himself in this league for an extended period of time, unlike Mason, Backstrom, Lundqvist or Huet)
Then there are a bunch of them at the same level... Kolzig, Turco, Vokoun, Nabokov and Miller come to mind.

You have to look at it more then stats with less presure with half a full crowd durring home games that Martin and DP play with?
How many players been booed out of jersey or the island? one would might ask. cant recall.
We have many and thats the pressure of NYC. does lundqvist perform with it?
he sure as heck does he had his share of boos durring his migrane and blured vision spell. he could of folded like a hermit crab such as tom poti and sandish ozolinsh did when booed but he stayed strong. he can handle any pressure given to him. after losing 4 straight to the devils in last season playoffs it could of been career damaging to a first year goalie. but lundqvist nope did not happen.
He is a pressure sitituation goalie and there worth there weight more then gold.
so other then your martin who i cant argue his career over as its been great. i can argue lundqvist against others i seem fit that you chose over him.
By the way. mad you should know beter then anyone most of martins stats over the years are due to his heavy workload so here are some facts below in commparisions with large workloads.
only 2 goalies with a larger workload then Ludnqvist have a beter GAA.
only 2 goalies with a larger workload then Lundqvist have a better SV%
No player with 60 games played or more has a better shootout SV% then Lundqvist.
Only 3 Golaies with a larger workload have more wins then Lundqvist.

No offense, but what in the hell does how many people he plays in front of have to do with whether or not he's a top 5 goalie in the league? If Lundqvist allowed the crowd to get to him, he probably wouldn't be a starter in the NHL would he? I guess since Cristobal Huet was great earlier this season in front of the Montreal crowd that he's a top 5 goalie now too eh?

I would hope he would be able to handle the pressure. But really, does he handle the pressure that much better than guys like Turco, Vokoun, and DiPietro? They've all had their rough spots in their careers and still have something to prove, but so does Lundqvist.

Really, beyond Brodeur, Kiprusoff, Hasek, and Giguere there aren't many playoff proven goaltenders in the league, so that's probably true. Although Lundqvist's 0-4 record in the playoffs doesn't really prove much (and yes, I know the Rangers as a whole had a crappy series).

Nice stats, but I still wouldn't put Lundqvist in my top 5. Like I said before at a certain other place, I consider Brodeur and Luongo to be the class of the NHL (maybe Kiprusoff as well), and there are 7-8 other goalies beyond that you could put in any order 3-10. I personally would choose Kiprusoff, Vokoun, Turco, and DiPietro ahead of Lundqvist. But that's just my opinion.:thumb:

Huet is a good example he plays in one of the most publicized city in canada and they fill there place. although not that many games yet under his belt he still looked to handle the pressure well. patrick roy did it for years. these are just some places that have full crowds and when you have them you have more people that just know more about the game and what they expect. its unfourtanate the devils just dont have that fan base attending the games i wish they did and put more pressure on the team. see how they perform when there fans let them have it. they play in a easy place it sure isnt like playing in the garden with very rowdy fans like me. you have to admit it like it or not martin never really played for huge crowds for any long length of time and really this relieves alot of pressure one might face. could you imagine martins nerves if he were a ranger having a bad game getting booed. sure its easier for an away game to get booed but having this on your home ice is no fun. just ask tom poti ot ozo. but yes i really think were one plays can have an affect to ones performence. big or large crowds rowdy or soft spoken it has affects. some people can thrive with it some can not.
But still martin is in a class with a few others.
the only reason I picked Lundqvist in my top 5 is because the original question asked about goalies playing right now. And Lundqvist is clearly among the league's best right now - Yesterday he was named the NHL's first star for the second time in 3 weeks.
That said, I wouldn't rush just yet to lump him into the NHL's elite. He's got more to prove. I'm very happy that he shook off a bad October and mediocre December to shine in the second half of the season.
Given that he won the gold last year I have little doubt that he lacks the mental fortitude to excel in the playoffs... but until he does, he remains unproven.
Then again Luongo has yet to appear in his first NHL playoff game
At any rate... Henrik needs a few more seasons under his belt before we can really know if he's gonna be all he's hyped to be. :thumb:

Mel thats all great what you spoken i have no doubts also he has won everyplace he has played within time and im sure the NHL with the rangers is next.
yes true luongo never played in the playoffs or ever carried his team to the playoffs.
Anyway think lundqvist mediocre play early on was from his migranes and blurred vision. i mentioned this before. imo it did and for him to come out of it like this just shows to me his status should be one of the top 5 in the league. he didnt fold under all of it and MSG is easy place for this happen. great mental makeups for NYC.
Also off-topic but just wait and see how better he will get when our defense improves over time with Staal, Sanguantti, Sauer. can Lundqvist be another martin? imo its possible martin did have alot of great defenses and now he has an average defense but what helps martin is he been in the league long enough to know the shooters and that really helps him. over time we will know if lundqvist is on the right track to being close to the next martin. which ill be fine with. :thumb:

Who are those 7-8 you have in the grouping behind the Brodeur, Luongo, and maybe Kiprusoff top echelon? I am going to take a guess and say:
Lundqvist
Miller
Vokoun
Turco
DiPietro
Giguere
Emery
as the 7 or so. :) Am I close?
