Sens face Pens in battle for position
The Sports Network

(Sports Network) - A pair of teams battling for playoff positioning tangle tonight at Scotiabank Place, as the Ottawa Senators play host to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Ottawa Senators come into tonight's action as the fourth overall team in the Eastern Conference, two points ahead of fifth-place Pittsburgh. Both clubs are also in second place in their respective divisions.

The Senators bring an eight-game unbeaten streak (7-0-1, one tie) against the Penguins into tonight's tilt. Ottawa also has four wins and one tie in its last five games against the Penguins as the host. Pittsburgh's last win over the Senators came on November 22, 2003.

The teams have met just once this season, a 6-3 road win for the Senators on November 10. Dany Heatley had two goals in that game, while Jason Spezza added a goal and two assists.

Ottawa needs to get back on the winning track after having lost its last two games. The Senators were downed by Atlanta on Friday and were then defeated by Chicago, 4-3, in a shootout on Sunday.

Sunday's setback against the last-place Blackhawks was especially frustrating after Chicago rallied from two goals down to post the win.

Oleg Saprykin, Daniel Alfredsson and Antoine Vermette each had a goal for Ottawa, while Martin Gerber turned away 22 shots in defeat.

Both Heatley and Spezza recorded assists to run their current point streaks to 11 games. Heatley has nine goals and nine assists over his run, while Spezza has seven goals and 12 helpers.

The Senators have won six in a row at home and are 21-11-2 as the host this season.

Pittsburgh was also in a shootout on Sunday, but unlike Ottawa, came out 4-3 winners over the Philadelphia Flyers. Erik Christensen scored two goals in regulation and both he and Sidney Crosby added shootout tallies.

The recently acquired Gary Roberts scored a goal and had two assists and Sergei Gonchar chipped in with a pair of helpers as the Penguins won all eight contests versus the Flyers this season for the first time in the franchise's history.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves in Pittsburgh's second win in its last three games.

The Penguins are 16-12-5 on the road this season and open a three-game homestand against New Jersey on Thursday.

Coach Bryan Murray is unsure of his line combinations for tonight's game against the Penguins. Peter Schaefer (shoulder) and Chris Kelly (wrist/hand) are expected to return. Ray Emery is scheduled to start in net. - TSN

All I know is Murray needs to find a way to get Fisher, Vermette and Comery going. Sens need secondary scoring going into the playoffs
