Senators tried to trade Gerber
TheFourthPeriod.com

According to the Ottawa Sun, Senators GM John Muckler tried to trade goaltender Martin Gerber at Tuesday's trade deadline.

Citing two league executives, the Sun claims Muckler tried to package Gerber with defenseman Christoph Schubert to the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Paul Mara and netminder Tim Thomas.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli, who was supposedly in the market for a goalie, rejected the offer.

The Sun reports the Senators will try to move Gerber this summer, while the also tried to move defenseman Joe Corvo at the deadline.

Meanwhile, the Senators haven't had any contract talks with goalie Ray Emery, who is will become a restricted free agent in July. The Sun claims he could seek a deal worth as much as $2.5 million per season. Emery's making $925,000 this season.

I'm glad we didn't lose Schubs but it could have been worth it. Emery for sure will want the same money as Gerber so something will have to give. Depending on what the cap is I see Redden being a forced trade if we can't deal Gerber. This is the only way we'll be able to keep all our players and give the deserving raises.
I like Schubs as a full time D man next year

Isn't this story typical of stories you don't want to come out in the final race to the playoffs. Shows the team doesn't have confidence in the player, not really what the player needs to hear if he is asked to play.

I know it happens with every team but this isn't going help Gerber's confidence and well being if Emery gets injured.

It tells me more than anything that there will be a market for Gerber in the off-season, much as I expected.

Gerber should worry about proving people wrong if something happens to Emery.
