View Full Version : Tkachuk to Atlanta
Good lord. I've always been a big Keith Tkachuk fan but......
To Atlanta
Keith Tkachuk, LW
To St. Louis
Glen Metropolit, F
2007 first-round pick
2007 third-round pick
2008 second-round pick
*2008 first-round pick
(*-conditional if ATL re-signs Tkachuk)
WAAAAYYYY to much of a price to pay for a guy well past his prime who IIRC is UFA this summer. And Atlanta is a team only 2 points into the playoffs right now. They might not even make it.
:eyebug:
The Blues just robbed a Brinks truck.

Perhaps John Davidson has learned something, he is stockpiling picks and prospects, he just resigned Brewer. The Blues may be a decent team in a year or so.
They just proved Barnum right!

Don Waddel is desparate fro this team to make the playoffs thus saving his job. Tkachuk is one of those guys who looks nice from far but is far from nice. He has been brutal in the playoffs and has never lead anybody anywhere. As I said Davidson is making the most of this and will have a competative team in a few years.

So they dealt Coburn, Metropolit, a 1st and 3rd rounder from this year, and a 2nd next year for Zhitnik and Tkachuk, all within 24 hours. Wow. KB, even if the Thrashers make the playoffs, that wouldn't even come close to justifying Waddel making these trades. Do you think he would be kept around after a first round exit, just because they made the playoffs? I think he'd have to win the Cup to legitimatize these trades.

Don't forget they also surrender their 2008 1st if Keith decides he likes Atlanta.
If that happens this is what they spent on Keith Tkachuk

youch!
Pre-lockout Tkachuk was a (although slightly injury prone) premier power foward. Pretty much guaranteed point-per-game production. Punishing physical player. Even then I would question this price tag.
Now in 2007? Forget it. I can't believe Davidson got that. I'm very interested to see what he can get for Guerin if he's for sale too.
Guerin has shown more of a rejuvenation than Tkachuk in recent months, both coming off disappointing 05-06 seasons.
And here I thought the Thrashers weakness was their defense. I don't see how you move that much of your future for Zhitnik and Tkachuk, unless you're desperate or just plain stupid. I know Zhitnik can be a decent defenseman, but why send 3 picks in the first 3 rounds over the next two years (plus possibly another 1st rounder) for Tkachuk? Wouldn't that have been better spent on a quality defenseman? Strange dealings in Atlanta recently...
