Jeff Heerema scored 10:22 into overtime as the Manitoba Moose completed a comeback, defeating Rochester 5-4. Lee Goren also had two goals to help lead the Moose to victory.

Rochester got on the board first on a goal by Paul Gaustad. Daniel Paille and Gaustad skated into the Moose zone. Paille fed Gaustad in the slot, who wristed it past Flaherty to make it 1-0.

Shortly after the Amerks goal, the Moose had a chance to get back in the game after a penalty was called on Peters. The powerplay was extended to a two-man advantage after Paille took a tripping penalty.

The best scoring chance for Manitoba came at the conclusion of the penalty, when Jesse Schultz was alone in front and attempted to backhand it over a sprawled Ryan Miller. Schultz was upendedby Brandon Smith before he could get a shot away putting the Moose on their third powerplay of the game.

On that powerplay, Lee Goren scored by one-timing a cross-ice pass from Peter Sarno to tie the game.

Rochester almost struck back on their own powerplay several minutes later. Thomas Vanek fired a shot that Flaherty had to be sharp in turning away with his left pad.

In the final minute of the opening frame, Justin Morrison broke in alone on Miller but was turned away in-close as the two teams remained tied going into the first intermission.

After one period, shots were 14-7 in favour of Rochester.

In the second, hard work in the corners paid off for Rick Rypien as he drew a roughing penalty on Geoff Peters to give the Moose their fourth powerplay of the evening.

On the ensuing man advantage, Manitoba was only able to muster one shot on Miller as the Amerks penalty killers stepped up their play.

The Amerks moved ahead 2-1 later in the period. Derek Roy was able to find a loose puck during a scramble in front of the Manitoba net and put it in behind Flaherty.

Rochester pulled ahead by two 2:35 later on a Nathan Paetsch one timer from the slot. Peters and Michael Ryan, who fed Paetsch from behind the net, drew the assists.

It was almost a three-goal lead when Paul Gaustad tried to sweep the puck in at the corner of the crease, but Flaherty slid across to make the save.

The tide started to shift Manitoba's way late in the period. Justin Morrison ignited the crowd with an individual rush, forcing Miller to make a big stop on a shot from the right faceoff circle.

The offensive series ended when Lee Goren was cut down by Rory Fitzpatrick on his way to the net, putting the Moose on another powerplay. However, the team was unable to generate a quality scoring chance against the Amerks penalty killing unit.

The Moose powerplay gained a reprieve after Alexandre Burrows was dumped in the Rochester zone by Jiri Novotny, putting them up a man once again. On the powerplay, Peter Sarno picked up a loose puck and lifted it over to Goren who potted it into the open net.

Manitoba had an opportunity to tie it up in the final minutes of the second but Sarno rang a shot off the post.

Shots in the second were 13-5 Rochester and 27-12 Amerks overall after two.

The Moose came out flying in the third, with a two-on-one right at the start of the period. Nolan Baumgartner's attempted tip of Nathan Smith's centering pass was turned away by Miller.

Peter Sarno then skated in on a partial breakaway. He was able to get a shot off but was turned away.

The momentum was halted when Rochester regained their two-goal edge. Derek Roy rifled a screen shot behind Flaherty five minutes into the third.

The crowd was taken out of the game following Rochester's goal but re-ignited five minutes later when Ryan Kesler scored on a wrister from the blueline. Miller was screened on the play as the shot eluded him.

The Moose then tied it up on a Josh Green blast from the point. Green wired it from the left faceoff circle top corner behind Miller to make it a 4-4 game.

Manitoba was behind the eight-ball when Burrows received a five-minute major for high sticking with five minutes left in the third. The Moose did an extravagant job killing off the penalty, and were rewarded at the third-period buzzer with a powerplay of their own to start the overtime.

Following regulation, the Moose were outshot 31-23 overall. Rochester did not have a shot on the five-minute powerplay and were outshot 11-4 in the period.

Due to a penalty for abusive language from the bench at the conclusion of the third, the Moose started overtime on a five-on-three powerplay.

Rochester did a good job keeping the Moose to the perimeter, even after Chris Taylor's stick broke.

Even after the powerplay, the Moose continued to pressure the Amerks. Tomas Mojzis had a great chance on a blast from the point. Miller was sharp in kicking out the pad.

The winning goal resulted in some hard work from Heerema and Kesler. Kesler managed to wrestle the puck away from an Amerks defender. It squirted out to Heerema who rifled it over Miller's shoulder for the win.

Good comeback win for the Moose. Strong game for Goren, sarno, and kesler

The Moose are winning?? I better get back on that bandwagon.

I LOVE THE MOOSE, I've been with them since the beginning. I'd just like to thank Jesus, and my special lady Marge, 'we did it baby!'

Anyway, it's good to see Kesler is rockin it out. Can't wait to see him and Bouck wearin the orca in a few years.
