Sens eye next week for Fisher
January 25, 2007

Sportsnet.ca -- The Ottawa Senators are hoping to have centre Mike Fisher back in the lineup later next week and are targeting the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 3 as a possible return date.

Fisher skated with the team in practice Friday for the first time since suffering a left knee injury on Dec. 27 against the New York Islanders. He has missed the past 12 games and will likely miss the Senators' next three games: Saturday (vs. Boston), Monday (at Montreal) and Tuesday (vs. Washington).

The plan is for Fisher to join Jason Spezza and Antoine Vermette, creating a line of three centremen who all sustained injuries in late December. Vermette missed five games with a hip injury and returned to the lineup on Jan. 11. Spezza has missed the past 14 games with a left knee injury and will return to the lineup on Saturday against Boston.

Spezza skates; but Saturday?
January 25, 2007

Sportsnet.ca -- The Senators held their first practice after the All-Star break on Thursday afternoon at Scotiabank Place and the news was mixed on the injury front.

As expected, Jason Spezza was back practicing with regular linemates - which appears to indicate he should be ready for Saturday's game against Boston. He skated on a line with Antoine Vermette and Patrick Eaves. Prior to the break, Spezza had been skating as a spare on Ottawa's fourth line.

Ottawa's other line combos at practice on Thursday were as follows:

Heatley - Kelly - Alfredsson
Schaefer - Comrie - Neil
Schubert - McAmmond - Hamel (McGratton)

There was one noticeable absence from practice on Thursday, as Mike Fisher did not practice with the team as originally planned. But Bryan Murray says there hasn't been a setback with Fisher's knee injury and he should be back practicing with teammates on Friday.
