Any one watch it on CBC?

The pre-game ceremony was an hour long. Totally deserving of the carreer he had. Typical Stevie, after 50 minutes of everyone saying how great he was, he got up and gave all the credit to everyone else. Even the fans got credit for pushing him. What a guy. He had the crowd give Scotty Bowman a standing ovation because he didn't think they had the chance to properly thank him when he retired immediately following the Wings last cup win. He had Bowman blinking back the tears before he was done.

They brought out every trophy Steve had the honour to win or share in winning, including the Presidents trophy and the Stanley Cup. His former teammates gave him a vacation to Europe to the soccer finals in '08, and the organization along with General Motors chipped in a nice SUV.

All in all it couldn't have happened to a better person. :thumb:

I watched it.

A very touching event, I don't think any other player has received such a send off. Good to see so many former Red Wings show up but I have no idea who the MC was.

I thought the players chipped in for a way better gift than the owners and GM. After so many years, Illitch could have stepped up with a bigger gift. Along with the SUV, how about free Little Ceasars' pizza for life and free season tickets to the Detroit Tigers.

* Illitch owns Little Ceasars and the Tigers.

No ceremony should ever go over 30 minutes.

Ever.

At least this wasn't as bad as the Mark Messier one (which was just way over the top, this one remained classy at least), but it was still too long.

Are you kidding? When they do Ryan Smyth they will book the arena for noon on gameday, and the game will still start 45min late.

In all seriousness if the length of ceremony is corelated to the quality of the carreer, an hour for Yzerman is easily justified.
