It's that time of year again, the time when hockey at it's best is played. Don't get me wrong the Stanley Cup playoffs are as exciting as well, but there is something about a group of 17, 18 & 19 year olds doning the national jersey and playing with everything they've got over this tournament.

Based on expert predictions it seems as if Canada and the U.S. are the favorites. But with this big ice and the European game, you never know sometimes. For anyone who doesn't have access to any of the games I believe TSN is showing broadbant coverage of the games on their website, so you might want to check it out.

Anyways, today the games of note are:

USA vs Germany -> Already in progress with the Germans up 1-0 going into the 3rd

Canada vs Sweden -> 12:30PM EST

Just to note that there have been changes to the format, the teams now if tied after regulation go to OT and a Shootout, with a regulation win earning 3 points, an OT/Shootout win earning 2 points, an OT/Shootout loss earning 1 point and a regulation loss earning 0 points.

Anyways this format was used to day as the Germans beat the USA in OT by a score of 2-1. Major upset to start the tournament, but not a major as Belarus scoring 4 times against Tuukka Rask on only 12 shots to shock the Finns 4-3.

Canada vs Sweden is up at 1:00

Well the Canadian shut out streak finally ended but they are 2-0-0, and they looked very good yesterday and they think they can play better.

I heard that Marc Staal has been very impressive again.

Can't wait for him to develop into a top-2 NHL dman the Rangers so badly need. :thumb:

Stall has been solid, and so have Bourdon (VAN), Letang (PIT), Parent (NAS) and Russell (CBJ). The TSN commentators were saying that all 5 could probably be playing in the NHL right now... Then you have Carey Price (MON) in goal who was the best goalie at camp for the Canadiens this fall...

What a fantastic game between Russia and Canada for silver and gold.
