Good riddance.
I wonder if giving up 15 goals in 2 nights was a wake up call.
This team despite being in 1st place at this time, still has plenty of weak spots.
What's troubling to me is that the team is still getting the vast majority of it's scoring from 4 players, just like last season, except Shanahan has taken Prucha's place more or less.
They can be good defensively - the 5 game win streak prior to this past weekend is evidence of that - but obviously there is a consistency problem. Just like last season.
And it's still pretty obvious that without the Jagr scoring machine this team is just not dangerous.
The rebuild has been hampered by the demise of Dan Blackburn, and some other questionable top picks (Hugh Jessiman?).
Sanguinetti and Staal are the Rangers future on defense but they're not ready for the NHL... maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to bring in a stable veteran or 2 in the interim. - Guys like the opposite of Sandis Ozolinsh.
The New York Rangers have placed defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh on waivers.
Ozolinsh, 34, was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks on March 9. This season, the veteran defenseman has no goals, three assists and a minus-8 rating in 21 games.
He's currently in the final season of a contract that pays him $2.75 million per season.
In June, Ozolinsh pleaded guilty to driving while impaired.
Ozolinsh, who spent time this season in the NHL's substance abuse program, was arrested May 3 on a drunken driving charge but plead guilty to the lesser charge of driving while impaired. He was ordered to pay a $300 fine.
Ozolinsh was stopped after driving 66 mph in a 40-mph zone, police inspector Daniel Jackson said. A field sobriety test estimated the level of alcohol in Ozolinsh's blood at 0.17 percent, more than twice the state legal limit of 0.08 percent.
