View Full Version : Kentucky Derby?????????
Anyone going to watch the 2 hour boring show to watch a race that takes minutes to win? I gave up on the thing ages ago. I would rather go to any of the UK racecourses on race day. It is so much fun people watching. I was in York for their race weekend and got to watch the Agga Khan leave in his helicopter, all kninds of celebs and EVERY race for free. The track is near Tadcaster Road and you can sit on the benches along the road (on the track side) and watch all the races for free. LOVED it.

Yeah I'll be watching. The race may only be two minutes, but it's an exciting two minutes :thumb:
I agree, the Kentucky Derby's pre-race show is lame, too long and boring. I always tune in right around 6:00 pm to get the last minute thoughts. Then The Run for the Roses and the most exciting two minutes in sports begins! You have to love the first leg of The Triple Crown.
Maybe I'll do the 6 o'clock thing. So I can get 2 more hours of yardwork in.
I love the jockey's "jerseys:"

I thought Bellamy Road jersey looked like this...

The 50-1 long shot Giacomo beat all of the favourites on the front stretch and captured the 131st Kentucky Derby in a come from behind thrilling finish. It was the second greatest upset in Derby history and a great sports story. He will attempt to win the second leg of The Triple Crown in The Preakness Stakes in two weeks time in Baltimore.

The most talked about and bet on horse, Bellamy Road, ran like the Yankees have played and finshed seventh.
Here's one of the better articles I found: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/horses/triple/derby/2005-05-07-kentucky-derby_x.htm

A pretty good race. Spanish Cheshnut did what everyone expected him to do, and exploded out of the gates to take the early. Bellamy Road and High Fly were even for awhile, but the distance was two much for both horses as they faded down the stretch. Great finish as Giacomo came out of nowhere and passed Closing Argument and Afleet Alex on the outside to win the 131st run for the roses.
I'm looking forward to the Preakness in two weeks, and Afleet Alex and Giacomo will hopefully give us another great finish.
It was amazing watching the replay in slow motion. Coming into the stretch (the final 2 furlongs I believe... whatever that means) - Giacomo was not even in the TV shot!
He was in 11th place. Watching him pass 10 horses down the stretch to get the win was really awesome and impressive.
